General Non-Fishing Chatter / OK... It's Official
« on: March 09, 2003, 12:16:02 PM »
Well, late yesterday afternoon, just before dark, I saw 5 Robins in my back yard ;D

I know this doesn't mean that we will have no more snow or cold weather, but at least it IS a positive sign!

Today is a definite tease, with temps finally clmbing into the mid 40s and the snow and ice melting at a pretty rapid rate.

We just need to hang in there for a little while longer...

General Non-Fishing Chatter / Record Temps?
« on: March 04, 2003, 06:49:04 AM »
OK... this morning I had a whopping temperature of 1 degree at 6:30 AM. This was colder than yesterday's morning temp of 9 degrees.

Does anyone know if we are breaking any records for low temps for the month of March? I am sure that there must be somewhere we can look for this info, but I haven't had the time to do so.

Charles, you guys must really be breaking records this year too!

The days are getting longer... the sun is higher in the sky each day... something has to break sooner or later!  ::)

The Hawg Forum / Fishing Gimmicks
« on: March 01, 2003, 03:25:52 PM »
The number of new fishing gimmicks each year never ceases to amaze me!

Browsing through the most recent issue of Bassmaster magazine I noticed a particular article. I didn't even bother reading it after I read the title and brief description of what it was about.

This article was extolling the virtues of using red hooks on baits and for soft plastics, supposedly to fool the fish into thinking that the bait is bleeding!

Please! Do they think bass fishermen are complete morons? Don't get me wrong, I fully believe that certain colors can and will induce strikes under certain conditions, but to say that these red hooks fool bass into thinking that their prey is bleeding is complete nonsense. Since when do bass understand that blood is red? Besides that, bass live in a pretty-much bloodless environment. It's not like bass see their prey torn to shreds, with blood streaming from it as they eat it.

These are not sharks that we're after here. They are bass... sight and sound feeders.

OK... I've got that out of my system now. Anybody else have an opinion on this subject matter?? ;D

We actually broke the 30 degree mark today. The first time in more than a week!

Just a tease, though.... supposed to drop back down again in the next 24 hours and put us back into deep freeze  :'(

Can't wait for Spring!

General Non-Fishing Chatter / Cameras
« on: January 24, 2003, 10:46:48 PM »
I have been playing around with my digital camera recently, trying to get used to taking close-up shots of lures and some lure components. It took me a while, but I think I finally got the hang of this "close-up" thing!

I am also trying to get used to the "self timer" feature, which will come in handy for getting shots of fish I catch when there is nobody else in the boat with me.

Just curious as to how many other people have digital cameras and, if you do have one, do you take it out with you whenever you go fishing?

I try to remember mine, especially during tournaments, but I want to get more in the habit of taking it with me all the time this-coming season :)

The Hawg Forum / Help.... I've fallen and I can't get up!
« on: January 15, 2003, 07:16:44 PM »
OK... let's get real for a few minutes here :)

How many of us have ever fallen in the water... either out of our boats or off of our trailers while launching or loading our boats??

Couple of my own tales:

I was fishing in the middle of the night quite a few years back. My buddy and I were hard into a decent school of quality smallies and were literally hooking into a fish evry 3rd or 4th cast! It seemed like every fish was around 2 lbs. or so. After landing and releasing another fish, I went to make a cast and somehow lost my balance. I managed to stay standing and in my boat, but the racket that I made while trying to stay that way was enough to scare all of the smallies away. We had to move to another area of the lake in order to get any more bites  :-[

On another note, I was with my brother-in-law. We were getting ready to pre-fish for a tournament. It was mid-to-late April. The water temps were in the mid-to-high 40s. He backed the trailer down the ramp and I walked out onto the trailer in an effort to push the boat from the trailer. This was necessary because the water at the ramp wasn't real deep and the boat wouldn't float off the trailer freely.

So anyway, he backed down and as I walked out onto the trailer, I slipped and fell, managing to bang the heck out of my shins on the way down, landed in the water and immediately jumped back onto the trailer  :o

Remember... it is pretty cold out, less than 50 degrees! The water is cold. I finish launching and we decide to head out and try anyway.

After about 45 minutes of trying my hardest to concentrate on fishing and forget about the fact that I am cold, wet and in pain, we finally gave up and went home  :(

OK.. now it's your turn to fess up!

Northeastbass.Com Classified Ads / Wanted: Boat Windshield
« on: January 05, 2003, 04:00:16 PM »
I have a 1996 Tracker Pro Team 18 that is missing the windshield. It was broken by an errant cast on a night fishing trip last year.  :-\
I would like to replace it, but a new one is pretty expensive.
Does anyone happen to have or know where I can get a used one in decent shape for a resonable price?   ???

I know it is only December 30, but I am sure hoping for an early Spring  :o
