Me too. Hopefully the water temps get to at least 40 by the time mid march rolls around. I have all my baits and rods ready to roll. I actually just got my first baitcaster and I have to go out and practice!

The Hawg Forum / Warmer Weather? Hopefully!
« on: February 15, 2016, 08:48:03 PM »
Looking like a warmer week this week coming up averaging in the 40's here in rhode island. Hopefully this rain tonight will melt away some of this snow and the ice on the water and we can get out on the water by march! Cannot wait to get my feet on the waters edge and fish! And not freeze doing so.

Curt recommended the green pumpkin red flake color soft plastic to me for the summer time and the yum dingers are my go to bait! I also like the yum dingers with the yellow tip works really well also

Ive fished arcadia in the early spring from the banks with o.k success. Out on my buddys canoe we fished near the banks and we did well, but there isnt alot of shore access and gets quite weedy. Curt and Joe could probably answer my question about bank access at Tiogue. Cant really think of any other places for tourneys.

I grew up bank fishing. I love to bank fish. I cant sit down in my canoe for more than a couple hours. I think its pretty cool to say that my personal best was off the bank and at a pond that people said that isnt worth fishing! proved them wrong with a 4+ larry last year

Yeah it stinks, I went and walked around last year to see if there was any shore access but I struck out. Hopefully sometime me and a few fishing buddies of mine will go out there on the canoe. This is why I like my local small ponds and I can fish from the bank! I'm in the search for a boat this year so I can at least stand up and fish.

I havent fished chapmans yet. It is on my list of fisheries to hit this season. Tiogue is another that Id like to fish. Then fish more at watchaug. Being a boatless fisherman stinks! I fish alot on my own so I cant take my canoe isnt really an option.

Thank you both for the recommendations! Should I put some sort of soft plastic on the back of the jig and the spinner? also colors, should I just stick with the regular blacks, browns and greens?

So ive been getting pretty much skunked with the weather cooling down. I lost a nice lipless crankbait that i caught 2 within the matter of 10 minutes and caught a 2 1/2 pound yesterday off a square bill both bluegillish patterns which I also lost to the notorious weed fish  >:( . I just ordered a couple packs of soft plastic swim baits and some jigs but I would like to know what else I should throw for the cooler temps? Thanks alot!

Fishing Tackle & Equipment Reviews / In need of a baitcasting rod under $100
« on: September 19, 2015, 02:29:16 PM »
Any recommendations on a baitcaster under $100? I love my ugly stik, but I really would like a baitcaster for fishing densely weeded areas. Also, nobody makes the left handed reels with a baitcaster? I grew up reeling with my left hand. Call me weird but I also shoot a gun and shoot pool with my left hand! Thanks in advance

Yes the pond that people can swim in.  Opposite side of the beach/swimming area are plenty of spots to cast.  I have even caught bass out of the roped off swimming area this spring when no swimmier were around.

Some big perch in the pond too plus I'm pretty sure the DEM stocks it with trout too if your into that sort of fishing.

There are plenty of cut-outs in the brush to almost work the whole pond.  I have only encountered 3-4 other fisherman fishing there when I was.

Haven't caught any whoppers out of there by many 2-3 lb range.

Good pond if its to late to drop the boat in or you have a hour or two to kill.

I was a camp counselor for the summer camp there about 4 years ago and when I used to take the kids fishing I would always trout fish with rooster tails and what not, while the kids caught the bluegill and pumkinseed. I remember now that you post this that A guy was using a small bluegill and caught a bass out in the corner of the fishing area. Thanks for the tip! Guess where I am going after work tomorrow!
