Lure Making / SpinGill
« on: April 04, 2020, 01:49:14 PM »
Just finished up this guy yesterday to enter into Tackle Undergrounds tackle making contest. Its a hard bodied Spinnerbait Bluegill. I carved it from a chunk of Black Birch and air brushed it with the stuff @Brazzy so Kindly hooked me up with. Definitely the hardest bait I have ever made and painted. I don't even know if I want to fish with it.

So I took a ride by Watchaug boat ramp on my way home today. The only thing that is closed, is the parking and picnic area where the actual state park is. You can still drive left towards the boat ramp. There is nothing new placed there, like signs where the boat ramp would be closed. Im sure there will be something posted once we get a day where trout ponds are open again. The floating dock also is still not in the water.

@ProvidenceBassHunter and I went out today, it was cold and raw. We managed to catch around 18 fish but only 7 of them were bass. Guess we should have went out later in the day because the bite didn't get going till around 10 am.

I was out yesterday, it was cold and raw. I didnt get a sniff on anything. My buddy caught one close to 3 pounder on a Jig. And a Pickerel. Every spring is slow for me. Just waiting for things to heat up for these fish to really start feeding up shallow!

This was my first Bass of 2020. Cruising around up shallow! Caught him in CT on probably my favorite springtime Bait, the Bladed Jig!

It clearly states in the article that all licensing and rules remain in effect!   They won't give up that money...

Hey, I can dream right????  ;D ;D ;D

I am still holding out to get my CT Licence to see if they dont require one! If I can save myself $50 then I am all for it! Im sure RI will open the lakes either today or very soon since there is a lot of overlap between RI and CT.

I am hearing some rumors that there will be no requirement for RI either. I dont know how they can do that, since people on opening day of trout season are normally shoulder to shoulder. Anyways, I am holding out on getting my Ct licence for an extra $50 and the $20 boat tag for aquatic species whatever! Maybe save a few bucks hopefully.

Thats a thought. Especially places like Carolina Trout Pond, that place you can barely cast on opening day. I guess that would be the best way is closing all trout fishing for opening day. Kind of stinks for us bass guys if they don't open trout lakes, but luckily a lot of the lakes that are big enough for bass boats aren't stocked with trout.

Cherokees are notoriously known for the rear brakes, and the emergency brake not working all that well. Mine do, after I fixed the adjuster, and the E brake cable in the rear drums but the E brake, is a bit less of what is supposed to be there. Sadly, by the end of summer I think ill have to give up on it and let someone else deal with it. I need a Pickup, and id really like something more reliable. Ive had it since 2015. Just a bit hard to get rid of a vehicle you have had for a long time and has treated you well.

The Hawg Forum / Jimmy Houston March 21 Thayers Marine
« on: March 10, 2020, 04:29:45 PM »
Hey all. My buddy just got a boat from Thayers marine a few weeks back. When I went to initially check it out with him I saw that Jimmy Houston will be there on the 21st! I may go with my buddy, to see if we can find any deals on some tackle they have. Decent little selection of rods, reels, line baits and tackle there. Not just boat stuff if you havent gone.

Figured it would be pretty cool to meet one of the pioneers of the bass fishing sport!

@metz12 I'm pretty sure those floating mats were due to the fact that they had sprayed the lake to kill weeds a week or so prior to the tourney.

That makes sense!!

The Yellow Perch at Echo Lake go nuts for Jerkbaits! My buddy put on a clinic of perch on a jerkbait on the back of my boat one day. I wanted to throw that rod in the water so he would put the thing down!

Most of the lakes in CT are well kept. My first year fishing SRIBA in 2018, we went to one lake in CT and the grass was TERRIBLE. Floating islands of nasty dead stuff. Not sure what it was. It was bad, could hardly throw a Spinnerbait.

Last year they obviously shocked the lake, because it was much better. I actually got 2nd place on a Spinnerbait, and Bladed Jig  ;D But I think that was more for the visitors and tourists in the area to not see the unsightly grass mats.

I mean there isnt anything I can do about it complaining. Just have to swallow my pride and fork over the 20 bucks with my tail between my legs.

Like you said @Brazzy If flipping the Milfoil at Candlewood is what you say it is, then I would rather just not even them touch it. That is one Lake I am going to hit this year. Be it on someones boat, or a guide trip Id like to get over there.
