The Hawg Forum / Cannot buy a fish!!
« on: April 22, 2013, 08:40:35 PM »
I have always struggled this time of year, but this is getting just silly. I feel like I have thrown everything except grenades in the lake and got nothing to show for it. I have fished that 8-12 foot range with jigs and jerkbaits... Nothing! Tried 3-5 foot range with lipless cranks and spinnerbaits and zeroed. What am I doing wrong? Now, to be honest, all my outings have been on the same lake for only 3 hours at a time. Cannot get my two year old to make it past the three hour mark. I feel like I am blind without a cane! Just might troll all day and have a couple cold ones. Any help or suggestions to spring fishing would help. I read the article post on the home page over a hundred times, but it just isn't working.

Just wanted to get a feel as to what lures guys are throwing this time of year. I have only been out twice this year with no luck. I was using a lipless crankbait and a soft jerkbait. What are some of the lures that have produced so far?

Fishing Tackle Q & A / Just got a new reel
« on: March 03, 2013, 05:11:26 PM »
Ok, after a few years of fishing freshwater and a lifetime of fishing saltwater I decided to try throwing a baitcaster. I gave it a shot last year on a cheap baitcaster and almost threw it in the lake. Purchased the Daiwa Exceler and wanted some opinions on my selection. I was told it is a quality starter reel, but I have no knowledge on these reels. What do you guys think?

The Hawg Forum / Trying to find local bass club and getting nowhere
« on: February 17, 2013, 06:48:07 PM »
Guys, I need some help. I am trying to find a local bass club to join, but I seem to be getting nowhere. I live in East Hampton CT and am looking for a club that mostly fishes east of the CT River. I really want to fish tournaments, but finding opens east of the river has been a challenge. I have a boat, but I don't mind fishing as a boater or non-boater. heck, I have no problem fishing solo. Just want to link up with some guys and consistently fish tournaments. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Hawg Forum / General fishing question

When you guys are fishing crankbaits and jerkbaits do you tie directly to the lure or use a swivel? I have been tying directly to the lure, but people have told me to use a swivel to get better action on the lure. Any thoughts or opinions on this matter?

Northeastbass.Com Classified Ads / Thinking about selling my bass boat

Have a 2007 G3 Eagle bass boat with a 25 hp four stroke engine. 55 pound trust motorguide trolling motor and a colored hummingbird 383 fishfinder mounted in the bow and a 7 series hummingbird fishfinder/ GPS with a map chip. Boat is in great shape along with the trailer. Have to double check the exact model hummingbird by the steering wheel of the boat, but I know it is a 700 series unit. Looking for $9,000 but will to listen to reasonable offers. Will post pics if there is any interest.

The Hawg Forum / Looking to get into some pike

Thinking about hitting Pachaug Pond in CT, any suggestions on spots and lures? Was also wondering if I should a wire leader or 40 pound floro? Never fished for pike but would love to learn the basics. Really don't know what type if baits to throw and what type of areas would be the most productive. Never fished this pond but saw that it had pike and was within 30 minutes of my house. Any help would be appreciated!!!

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / Could have cried!!
« on: September 09, 2012, 05:22:15 PM »
Fished a local lake today and got out there around 7:00am. Started throwing a gold spinnerbait in about 3-5 feet of water. About ten minutes into it I hooked the largest smallie I have ever seen. I have landed a 5 pounder before and this fish deworfed that one. When the fished jumped a third time, some slack line wrapped around my rod tip and the line popped. I just sat down on the deck of the boat and could have cried. I was by myself so there was no one there to take my anger out on. I proceeded to catch three respectable smallmouth, but didn't enjoy any of them. Spent the rest of the morning trying to talk myself off the ledge.

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / Private Lake
« on: June 16, 2012, 02:15:17 PM »
Hit a private lake this morning from 5:30-8:30 and had pretty good success. Caught a 24 inche walleye on a gold spinnerbait. I have caught a few walleye but never on that type of lure. Went on to catch a respectable smallie and a fairly good largemouth. Fish were jumping all around us, but we didn't hit any really bug girls. The guy I was with got skunked, so he was pretty ticked:)

Hit a local lake after work and only hooked one fish, but it was a 5.3 pound largemouth. Fish hit a white lipless crankbait. Hooked the fish in about 4 feet of water on the windy side of an island. One of my better bass and the biggest of the year!

« on: April 07, 2012, 08:54:06 PM »
Went to check this lake out but did not fish it. Anybody ever fish it and have an opinion on it? Saw that they have pike. Any numbers or size? Just looking for general info regarding this body of water. It's about a 30 minute drive for me and wanted to see if it were worth it.

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / Gardner Lake
« on: March 29, 2012, 10:39:37 AM »
Fished yesterday for two hours on this lake a caught a 3 pound smallie and a 2.5 pound largemouth. Smallie was caught on a lipless crankbait and the largemouth came off a gold spinnerbait. Water temp. was right around 50 degrees. Would have fished long, but my year old son had other ideas. He enjoys the boat, but only in short bursts!
