The Hawg Forum / Evinrude ends motor production.
« on: May 29, 2020, 09:31:57 AM »
Was kind of a stunner this week when Evinrude announced they were ending Etec & G2 production!

I've never owned any other brand of engine, always had Johnson or a Rude on my boats. My current G2 is my favorite so far.
I have 7 more years of warranty left, hopefully that gets honored if i need it. They claim they will and will still make the parts for them.

it's kind of sad to see them go after such a long history in the boating world  :(

The Hawg Forum / Finally warming up??
« on: April 30, 2020, 12:30:56 PM »
May 1st is tomorrow and finally a weekend in the 60's with sun  :)

It's been a rainy and cold April. Went out yesterday and water temps were still  48 - 50.  I won't miss April  ;D

Just read where Aaron suffered a serious seizure while fishing yesterday.
His mother posted that they found a brain tumor and he'll have surgery tomorrow  :(

Hoping he pulls through alright!

Fishing Tackle Q & A / Floro to braid knots!
« on: March 21, 2020, 11:21:40 AM »
I've been using the FG knot for a while now with great success. it does take some practice to tie but i have it down pretty good.

Came across this video for the Shin Fukae knot and it looks fairly easy and fast to tie. Might have to try it out!

The Hawg Forum / Opening Day?
« on: March 19, 2020, 11:07:20 AM »
With everything pretty much shut down i wonder if the state would consider cancelling opening day?
Some places attract hundreds of people that are fishing elbow to elbow!

This virus is taking a toll and i think it's only the beginning  :P

The Hawg Forum / Scratched the itch today!
« on: February 24, 2020, 01:16:01 PM »
Couldn't pass up this nice February weather so i got the boat ready Saturday and went out today,

Very nice out but also very cold water, temps were 37 with a little skim ice in one corner (the corner i wanted to fish) got up to 40 when i left!
No bass but got a couple pickerel, nice to have something stretch my line  8)

Hope we can keep getting warmer but the weekend looks to get colder again. Won't be long  :)

The Hawg Forum / Buzzbait Bass
« on: September 22, 2019, 11:37:36 AM »
There's been a few posts of Buzzbait bass lately and i got in on the fun also.

Got this 6lb 5oz beauty on a recent trip to Maine in the belgrade area, also caught some nice ones on big swimbaits. I love the color of the bass in Maine

Fishing Tackle & Equipment Reviews / Shimano SLX
« on: June 16, 2019, 12:55:48 PM »

Been seeing great reviews on the new SLX reels from Shimano and wanted to try one. Found them on sale at Sportsman Warehouse and bought one.

When i first took it out of the box i wasn't sure i was going to keep it. It felt a little tight, it was smooth just not free spinning. Ergonomics felt great in my hand, i have 30 days to return it so i figured i might as well try it.

Spooled 12lb P-Line on it and was really impressed how well this thing cast. felt really smooth reeling the bait in. I've been using it for over two weeks now mostly fishing swim jigs and spinnerbaits and i think it's my new favorite reel. I wish they had the high speed model on sale but can't find any anywhere under MSRP.  I will be buying another

The Hawg Forum / Spawn???
« on: May 21, 2019, 09:18:59 AM »
I was at Patchaug yesterday and found a lot of empty beds. No small males guarding the beds and certainly no females around!

Do you think they already spawned? Water temps were 62 - 64 in the morning, sure it really shot up in the afternoon.
