I've been killing it these past few weeks. In the past 2 weeks of put 6-7 fat 4+ and up females in my hands and a bunch of 3's and chunky males, putting my bass count since February into the mid 30's. How are yo guys all doing this prespawn? I better see my fellow bank anglers and boaters with some healthy numbers!!!! Hope you all are having a great season so far. Tight lines!!

Received our event permit in the mail today!! Anyone wishing to join the tournament, contact me via pm or on Facebook "angler society of Rhode Island"

It's time fellas. Taking registrations from now until April. If we still have open slots than I will take same day entry for anyone that can't register ahead of time. We will be at Lincoln woods on Saturday may 14th. If you register online it will be $20 and anything after April will be $22 online or $20 same day entry depending if there are open spots on the roster. Rules and regulations will be explained in the group meeting prior to start. The tournament officially starts at 8am and will continue until 4pm. We will have a rented site in the park so there will be a cookout afterwards. Feel free to bring something if you'd like. We are also taking donations to be able to do a little bit extra. There is a donation option on the link I'll post and you can donate as you register. Anything helps and will be greatly appreciated. We hope to see plenty of you there!!!!! Pm for more details and updates

The Hawg Forum / Huge hit or fail?

I've had some skepticism the past few months on why my co founder and I decided to make a group for bank anglers. I've been hearing "why not just do boats or canoes or kayaks" "why bank angling" "you've gotta be like the pros" all I hear is you've gotta do this and that in order to be recognized. I've gotta be honest with you. I'm sick of it. What about all the people who can't afford it? What about the people who actually put time and work to master the banks. The people that take pride in being able to pull a limit from shore. I know I pride myself in being able to hit my home waters and kill it every time. Because I've studied the water and made my adjustments. What do you guys think? I will fight for my group and my team to be recognized. How do you guys feel about a group dedicated to mastering the banks and fishing the hard stuff and sticking to it. Would you support us or brush is off? I think ASORI fishing is here to stay for a while.

For as long as I can remember, my father has been using ugly stik. He passed down a small 4-5 ft rod to me and I used it for years. Now I've gone thru only 3 rods in my time and that's only because I dropped one in the water a few years back. I use a 6'6" Uglystik with a cabelas spinning reel and 10lb line for finesse applications and a 6'6" Uglystik gx2 medium heavy casting rod with an Abu Garcia black max 3 baitcaster with 30lb power pro braid (using leaders as needed). I'm sure I'll pass those rods down to my children some day and they keep the ugly tradition. If you guys had to pick one all purpose rod, what would it be?

So I'm still fishing local open water and still catching them. Mostly dinks but I can't help myself. How are y'all doing?

What do bass mainly feed on in RI? You always see talk about imitating shad and seeing all these colors and styles that work for down south but never get hits up here. I always try to imitate shiners. Silver and golden. I'll usually buy a silver or gold lure, sometimes white. I'll run a sharply up and down the back to make them look like shiners. What works best for you guys up here?

I've had nice bassin with my brother there. Does anyone ever walk around and give it a shot? I've seen 6 pounders pulled out of there, not to mention the behemoth carp.

Lure Making / Attention all local lure makers.

ASORI will be holding its first local bank anglers tournament. I would like to keep everything local to promote our state and what it has to offer. I know a lot of you guys like to make your own lures and plastics and I would like to ask if anyone would like to donate a lure. Just one lure from a few different guys would be great. We will be giving them away to anglers that win that day. I will gladly promote you and direct the guys to you for information about lures and prices. As my old man always says "one hand washes the other" we will promote you as local businesses and it would be great if you can help us out!!! Looking forward to hearing from you and establishing long term relationships with my fellow fisherman!

 alright everybody! ASORI's first annual bank fishing tournament will be held on Sunday, May 15th. This will be a 5fish limit, no live bait tournament with a 1st 2nd and biggest bass winner. We look forward to hearing from you all. Email us at for rules and regulations. The tournament will be at waterman reservoir off of rt 44 in Smithfield. Have a great winter guys, this is going to be a blast!

The Hawg Forum / Colors colors and more colors!!!

As winter starts to kill my fishing buzz, this is the time of year I sit down and prepare for spring. I buy way more than I need and sometimes I find myself buying color combos that really don't do well on my waters. I stick to 3 colors that I can mess around with and be productive with. I use white, green pumpkin and black. White being my favorite because I like to tweak my lures with sharpies and what not. I love the size of fish I catch on shiners so I draw a black/silver back on my flukes and cranks. What do you guys do?

Here at ASORI we are trying to coordinate a bank fisherman tournament. We have a location and entry fee and rules in place. The only thing is we only have about 12guys competing. I'd love to know if any of you guys would like to sign up. $20entry, no live bait, 5bass limit, minimum 12inch fish. If you have any feedback for me, PLEASE ! Feel free to ask anything and contribute ideas. Again, it is a bank fishing tournament so if you have a suggestion on a good lake with plenty of bank spots, let me know! Thanks
