Boating Forum / My Boat To Do List
« on: March 10, 2021, 10:54:20 AM »
Well, heading into this winter I had very little on my boat to-do list.

The only thing I knew for sure that I needed to do was to replace the seals on the axles, since one of them has been leaking for about 4 or 5 months.

I decided, though, that I would actually replace the entire hub on both sides. This would give me new hubs, bearings and seals, all in one shot, with very little labor involved.

Then, part-way through the winter, I decided to add a second Minn Kota Talon, so I'd have one on the starboard side, in addition to the one I added on the port side last Summer.

Other than that, the remainder of the list was pretty much just a good cleaning and organizing.

Well, as of today, I have purchased and installed the second Talon, which I'm super excited about!

But I still need to do the hubs, the cleaning and the organizing.

The cleaning and organizing will get done this weekend, and the hubs will be done next week.

And just in time, since it's time to go fishing!

I can't wait to see more and more of these days.

Oh, and we get to set the clocks ahead this weekend too  (giggle)

Right now the weather feels like one step forward, two steps back

But, looking at next week, as of today the forecast for southern RI is saying 3 days in a row of 50 degrees!

I hope the winds we've had the last few weeks aren't an indication of how the Spring will be.

We had enough wind last year to cover all of this year already!

Today would definitely not be a good day to go fishing and try out the new Talon  :o ::)

Boating Forum / 2nd Talon Installed!
« on: March 01, 2021, 11:50:21 AM »
I spent Saturday morning in the garage with the propane heater fired up.

By lunch time, I had my 2nd Minn Kota Talon installed on the boat!

Can't wait to use it now. We just need a bit warmer weather

The Hawg Forum / Getting Closer
« on: February 04, 2021, 07:13:33 PM »
Well, as I sat at my desk tonight doing my work, I looked outside at 5:15 PM and it was still almost fully daylight!

We will be one week into February this Sunday, so it'll only be 3 short weeks until March 1.

Once March 1 rolls around we can legitimately start looking forward to getting on the water within a short time.

The only exception would be if we have a longer-than-normal cold spell in late February. But I hope we don't!

I need to get my new Talon installed (which will give me a pair of them), and get the hubs on my trailer replaced, so my boat and trailer will be ready for the thaw and the first trip out!

Let's hope the Winter doesn't drag out too long like it has the last two years.  :nope:

Well, so far the Winter hasn't been too bad. Only the one snow storm, and the temps have been bearable.

But I also know that we're really just getting started, so let's see what the next 6 weeks bring!  :hmm:

I spotted frozen areas yesterday morning in a local swamp.

I know they will likely thaw out over the next few days, but it tells me that the water temps in the the extremely shallow areas are hanging in the low 30s.  :crying:
