Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / Might be the wrap
« on: December 14, 2016, 11:38:07 AM »
Got out yesterday for possibly my last trip of the year and after the last couple weeks being on the slow side for me i finally found some fish more willing to bite. Ended up with 7 solid keepers around weeds in 6-10 fow near deep water. Got them on a susp jerkbait. Best five went about 13.75, good way to end the season. Might sneak out around christmas if it warms up and i can find any open water.

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / Getting better
« on: May 11, 2016, 10:22:06 AM »
finally had a solid day after the last 4 or so times i've been out in the last couple weeks being really slow for me. Got out yesterday from 1:45-7:30 and put 15 keepers in the boat, a couple shorts, a couple pickerel and a 14'' crappie. Also missed several other hits. I was fishing in central MA and noticed a lot of crappie in the shallows most likely finishing up spawning. Only saw about 12 bass beds but no fish on them. Some of my bass came really shallow right up near shore around wood and rock, while others were around wood and rock on the the drop off in 3-6 fow. I rotated between a 3/16oz black/blue jig and a 1/2oz black/brown jig. For the first 4 hours i couldn't get them to hit the heavier jig only the 3/16oz but than in the last 1.5 hours the the light jig bite completely died but they ate the 1/2 jig good. About ten of the 15 keepers were 2lb or better with the biggest at 3.04 and my best five at 13lb or a little better. Not a huge bag for being close to spawn but was still a great day.

Got out this past tuesday in central MA. Overall it was a tough day, the dink 8''-11'' bass were eating everything i threw but keeper size bass were harder to come by. Was on the water for 5.5 hours and managed 7 keepers with a few solid ones and my new pb for the second time this season at 6.59 lbs. Three keepers on a chatterbait and four on a 3/8oz jig including the big one, had another 4+ lb bass come off at the boat just before i left on the chatterbait. Caught all my fish up on shallow sand/boulder flats  in 2-4 fow

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / slow but not to shabby
« on: March 26, 2016, 08:04:10 PM »
Went a little north to a pond in MA. When i checked the weather yesterday it was saying mostly sunny to sunny all day so i planned to go early afternoon. Turned out it was nice and cloudy all morning and for about an hour after i got there, picked up two good ones pretty quick than the clouds moved out and the bite died as i figured it would. Still managed three good ones, a 3.90, 3.67, 2.77 and a bunch of tiny 10'' ones. The little guys seemed to want a smoke colored grub while the big ones eat a 3/16oz black/blue jig. Slow but always a good time out on the water.

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / Hammer time

Hit my Close to home lake today from 10-3:30. Started out fishing the western shore line as there was a pretty strong ENE wind and i was hoping that would make for a good reaction bite. Started out throwing a trap, squarebill, and jerkbait to an island that has a mix of a little wood by shore and some boulders in about 3-4 fow just before it drops to about 8'but not a bite off that spot.I moves a short ways to a flat that's about 3-5 foot deep with a mix of sand and small boulders and this was the money spot. [/size]I started out throwing the squarebill and hooked up but it got off. Thew the sb a few more times but no more bites so i started throwing the jerkbait and caught six bass in six consecutive casts! Ended up having to retie a new leader because a couple feet of it got chewed up from the rocks and as soon as i was retied i got two more on the jerkbait really quick. All these fish were on the small side, most were little 14''chunks but a couple were 12''-13'' and one 2lber. I almost stayed as the bite was still going pretty strong at this spot but i kept moving trying to find some bigger fish. Turned out that that first flat was the only really productive spot. Ended up getting 6 other bass off of other flats but returned to that first flat two more times and managed 20 keeper size bass off of it in all. The total for the day was over 30 bass, 26 keepers and 5 or 6 shorts. Ended up with a good smallie for this place at 2.94 and a 3.71 largie being my best fish of the day, a bunch of 14'', a few 15''-16'' and a few 12''-13''. Couldn't seem to catch them on anything except a jerkbait with 2-3 rips and 1-3 second pauses. Not a hole lot for quality but a fun day with a lot of bites.

Got out this morning for a little under 3.5 hours. I was planning on tossing the jerkbait mostly tho i knew the water would probably be in the upper 40's so also had a lipless crank on one rod. started out throwing the jb in weeds around 6'-8' just next to a drop off. No hits on two different jerkbaits so i picked up the trap and made a few casts but nothing. Moved to the spot that's been producing for me at this place, a weed flatStarted fishing the end of the flat right before it dumps off into 12+ fow and got a 1.5lber pretty quick. Made a bunch more casts with the jb and had one more hit but only had it hooked for a second. tossed the trap at this spot but nothing. I have a lot of faith in this spot so i stayed and tossed a keiteck 3.8 on a 1/16 oz swimbait hook for a bit slow rolling it trying to bump the tops of the weeds. Had one hard tap on it but i set the hood too fast didn't let him take it good enough. Ended up picking the jerkbait back up still fishing this spot about an hour later and finally got another one in the boat, a better one at just under 3lb. Seemed like they were turning on because i had like three more bites real quick but couldn't keep any of them buttoned. After that little flurry of bites it got slow again and i was just about to move to a new spot but i decided to stay a little longer at that same spot. I had been alternating through a few different jerkbaits and i put the lc flash pointer that i had gotten the first two with back on and low and behold i get smashed. Ended up boating my new pb at 6.34. Only about a ounce bigger than my previous pb but still my biggest. Now i'm thinking i'm just gonna stay in this spot a bit longer and soon after i had another hit and miss but i didn't care anymore about the missed fish. Within 20 min of catching the biggin i get another big one on, thought it was gonna be over 5, maybe bigger than the last as it was pulling harder but turned out to be just a nice 4.47 chunk. Ended up getting one more off this spot at 2.1lb. No more bites for a bit after so i went back to the first spot and fished it for about a half hour but nothing. Ended the farly quick trip with 5 keepers and one short with my best five at 17+lb

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / cold morning
« on: March 19, 2016, 09:00:56 PM »
Hit the water this morning, was a little colder than i would typically fish in but i wanted to see if the jerkbait bite was on and found a decent bite. Ended up with six bass on the jb up shallower and one on a blade bait out in 20' had one decent fish get off on the blade and a couple shake my jerkbait. Best one at 3.75lb. All together a decent day but a little too cold at only 25 deg upon arrival and pretty stiff winds by 9:00 brrr

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / Working for a few bites
« on: March 17, 2016, 12:06:02 PM »
Got out yesterday, fished from 12-6. When i first arrived it was mostly cloudy and pretty windy. I was hoping for a good chatterbait bite so the conditions seemed ideal. First cast of the day to a submerged stonewall yielded a nice 3.5lb lmb. After a few more minutes of fishing the wall without another bite i put the chatterbait down and threw a square bill crank up to the wall slowly reeling it along bumping the rocks and i get smashed, had a really heavy fish on and fought it half way back to the boat but it managed to get off. Didn't get a look at it but it was def a good one. Got two more bass in the 1.5 range on the chatterbait shortly after in another nearby rocky spot than the wind died down a lot and it changed to mostly sunny conditions and i could only scrape up one small keeper in the next 5 hours that came on a grub... Should called it quits long before i did but i was hoping the evening bite would turn on but it never seemed to. I've been very surprised at how slow the bites been for me lately with water temps in the low 50's i'd assume. Much slower than last year early ice out but still glad to get a few.

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / More february bassin
« on: February 29, 2016, 08:51:51 AM »
Got out Sunday morning for a quick morning trip, fished for just over an hour and only got one bite but it was the one bite i was looking for. After a nice fight i lipped a beauty 5.15lb chunk. Got her on a susp jerkbait. Was only 35 deg when i left at a little after 8am but by the time i got out of church it was so warm, was wishing i could get back out.

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / February open water bass
« on: February 04, 2016, 04:37:01 PM »
Had a feeling i could find some open water in southeast ct with all these warm days lately and the rain we got last night. Was on the water just before 7 this morning. Ended up putting in 5 hours. It rained off and on for the first 3 hours and the fishing was slowwww but it didn't bother me. Just felt good to be out with comfortable temps fishing open water in february. Ended up with two nice bass, one just under 3lbs, and the other at 3.32. Also got two decent size pickerel. I threw a 3/8oz jig, a small keitech swimbait on a 1/8oz jighead, a jerkbait and a lipless crank. Only thing that produced was the jerkbait around weeds in 7-8 fow

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / Some nice cold water Bass
« on: December 23, 2015, 01:39:46 PM »
So here's a look at my best fish since what i'd consider the cold water season which started around mid November.  My best one being a beauty 6lber to kick off December, then a nice 5lber i got a couple days ago. All these fish came on suspending jerkbaits. For the most part that's all i've been catching them on except a few here and there on blade baits, squarbill cranks, and soft plastics.

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / My season so far
« on: May 05, 2015, 02:05:49 PM »
Just though i'd jump on here and make a post seems how i haven't been on this site in a while. So far it's been a great season, I've been out at least 15 times, most of my trips have been short 1.5-3 hour trips and maybe 6 or so longer 4-5 hour trips. The fishings been very odd, i've had some good days with crappy weather patterns but also some bad days when i'd expect them to be chomping.

I've had a couple 20+ bass days and one day i got close to 40 bass. In all i've easily gotten a dozen over 3lbs, at least seven i can think of over 4lbs, and two over 5lbs. The first couple weeks after ice out i was getting most of my fish on susp jerkbaits, rattletraps and 1/4-1/2 oz jigs and the last two weeks or so i've been getting them mostly on jigs and i had one good day with my best five bass at 19lbs on chatterbaits. I ended up straining a muscle in my back pulling my boat up a hill last week so looks like i'm out of commission until at least the beginning of next week tho i've had a bad back for a while from a back injury i had a while ago so hopefully it's gonna heal ok.

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / Awesome hard water jigging
« on: January 14, 2015, 09:31:55 PM »
Had a great day fishing for smallies. Jigged up 13 smallies with five of them over 2lbs and the biggest was just under 3lbs, not a single smallie under 14''.

Woulda been a crazy good day if i didn't lose so many fish, easily as many smallies come off as i landed with two real nice looking ones, one was well over 3lbs. Also got a few white perch and a rainbow.

Caught all fish from depths of 25'+ and got them on a lunker city 3'' hellgie on a lunker city untralight 1/16 oz jighead.  fow

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / Can't buy a Bass
« on: December 12, 2014, 07:47:10 PM »
Been out in the boat twice and off shore once since my last report, for 7-8 hours between the three trips, and have't gotten a single bass to bite. Not giving up yet, hoping I can get on a decent bite before it's frozen, if not than bring on the ice!

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / December 6th Bassin
« on: December 06, 2014, 10:06:45 AM »
Had a great morning, fished from 6:45-930 and got 8 bass with five of them between 2-3lbs and 6 crappies. All the bass came on the usual spro jerkbait in about 6-8 fow right near the drop off, and the crappies where just out off the drop in 13 fow. Not much size to the crappies, one 10'' and the rest around 11''. Got the crappies on a 3'' lunker city hellgie/1/16 oz jimhead under a float. Was a bit chilly at only 34 degrees when i got there and 37 when i left but there was no wind so it wasn't bad at all.
