The Hawg Forum / Jonhson's Pond?
« on: August 27, 2021, 08:54:25 AM »
Anyone on here know if the water level on Johnsons Pond is low enough to get under the Isle of Capri bridge?  @Mitz ?

Got on a good bite this morning with a one two punch of a spinner and a spider grub. Boated a 15 1/2 lb limit, then switched to a river and caught 7 more on the spinner. Moving water has been a more reliable bite in the heat.

@Tatsu Dave , redeemed myself two days later (see river outing), the pond I fished two days prior was small and the weeds were dying so the fish were sluggish. Moving water is always better in the heat.

@metz12 , just keep casting and try different water, you'll break the slump.

Had 3 short hours today to get out so I decided to do a river run. The current was a little to strong but that put fish in more predictable spots. Caught several chunky fish and 1 baby smallmouth.

Ate a big slice of humble pie today. Luckily we hooked a couple of fish early and then it just shut off.

With all the rain we've had it's made some unreachable spots accessible. Caught a bunch of solid fish in the trees today, sure was nerve racking reeling them through the timber.

The Hawg Forum / Better quality lately

The last few weeks I've see an uptick in better quality fish bites. I think the bigger fish are feeding up trying to recover from the spawn. Fish seem to be heading deeper to their summer haunts.

Thanks Curt, she put up a good fight, the pads were popping on her initial run.

My Daughter got me some Fishmonkey gloves for dads day. Second trip out and I got my "Fishmonkey high-five" off my back. To top it off I got her on the frog.

You can get Largemouth, Smallmouth and Pike at Messalonskeee. Don't overlook the smaller ponds up there, that depends on what boat you're launching though. @thirsty
