Topic: frog bite kicking in

With this hot weather the frog bite is kicking into high gear. The river fishing should take off also with fish trying to find more comfortable water temps and higher oxygen content. Got this one in the heat today.

I was out on the river starting at midnight the past 2 nights and the frog bite certainly has kicked in.  Between dragging a black scumfrog off the banks and dropping down to a 1/2 oz black/red spinnerbait, I was hitting them fairly consistently.  No size to brag about but I'll take a 2lb fish nailing a frog in the pitch black anytime.  Not sure why the larger spinners aren't getting it done for me like they normally do at night but it could be tied to the low water level and spooking the fish.

 I was out on the Sudbury for those nights. I lived along it for 25 years and it is my favorite for nighttime fishing.  It may be the best example of how fish seem to add a ton of weight in the night hours, and shed it in the light

@Boxofrain65 It's interesting that you fish a river after dark. While I was living in New England, I spent literally thousands of hours over the years fishing at night, but only tried river fishing in low light conditions a couple of times and had ZERO success. Granted, I didn't put much time at all into it due to the dangers of navigating a small river after dark, and the incredible onslaught of mosquitoes while it was dark.

I did have one successful foray fishing from shore one night, though, tossing a jitterbug around in an area where there was only a little current.

I understand where you are coming from.  If one of my buddies wants to head out for a night then we'll take the boat and head to the Concord or South Shore.  Otherwise, it's too much of a project and it's also very hard to stalk an area with a frog on dead calm water on a skinny river.  I have 4 or 5 spots with good shore access within 15 minutes of home.  Sometimes the bugs aren't bad, other times I just hit a few spots and am home in an hour or two.  Last night they were brutal, so I shut off the headlamp and was done in 30 minutes.  But, I caught two (including this one) and chuckle when people tell me there is nothing above 3lbs in there.

Awesome Frog Fish! I have been doing well on the frog all year. One of those baits that produces well for me when things are tough.
