Minn Kota Talon Stomp Switches
« on: April 24, 2021, 09:00:48 PM »
I recently installed a second Minn Kota Talon to my boat, giving me a pair of them now

I have them paired with each other via Bluetooth, as well as pairing them with two hand-held remotes.

I had been using the standard wireless remotes to operate them. One is mounted at the console. The other is/was mounted on the bow, in the recessed trolling motor tray.

I was getting tired of having to bend over to operate the bow remote, especially if I had to use it while fighting a fish.

So, I decided to get a foot switch.

After doing some homework, I decided to get the Bluetooth Stomp Switches for the Talon/Raptor, not the triangular multi-switch.

I ordered them and got them from West Marine earlier this week.

The next day, I got them installed and paired up, so they operate both Talons at once.

Wow! I can't wait to use them on the water.

A simple double stomp on the Down button deploys both Talons effortlessly. And a single stomp on the Up button retracts them both.

This is going to be a huge upgrade for me  ;D

p.s. If you look closely, you can see where I had mounted the standard handheld remote in the recessed trolling motor foot pedal tray.

How is the battery life on your remotes? When I had the non-bluetooth switches the battery would last for years. I am finding that the battery life on the bluetooth ones only last a couple of trips. Its crazy because I have 3 remotes plus the triangular foot pedal. No matter which one I use it lasts maybe a week or two and its dead. I ended up bulk ordering batteries. How are your holding up?

@Brazzy I still have the same battery in both remotes form last year.

I installed my first Talon in late July last year an fished through mid-November on the same battery in both remotes.

I am still using those same two batteries now as well. Although now I have removed the bow remote, since it has been replaced by the Stomp Switches.

Something seems terribly amiss if you have to buy batteries in bulk and replace them as frequently as you are. Especially since I seem to remember that you have a single Talon, right?

I would call Minn Kota and ask them about this because something is clearly not right with your setup.

I am running 2, but even still that shouldnt really have an impact. Not sure why that is. I would get it if 1 remote was doing that, but every remote I have is doing it.

You're 100% right. Those batteries should last you at least a whole season. Something is definitely wrong somewhere for you to have to replace them so frequently.
