Topic: Getting Closer

Well, as I sat at my desk tonight doing my work, I looked outside at 5:15 PM and it was still almost fully daylight!


We will be one week into February this Sunday, so it'll only be 3 short weeks until March 1.


Once March 1 rolls around we can legitimately start looking forward to getting on the water within a short time.


The only exception would be if we have a longer-than-normal cold spell in late February. But I hope we don't!


I need to get my new Talon installed (which will give me a pair of them), and get the hubs on my trailer replaced, so my boat and trailer will be ready for the thaw and the first trip out!


Let's hope the Winter doesn't drag out too long like it has the last two years.

My friend and I are going to be starting the rebuild on my front deck and the cockpit very soon! Its going to be quite the job, but it should be really awesome when its all done. Luckily he is a carpenter, and he has access to a garage that we can bring in a couple of propane heaters in and get it warmed up in there.

@metz12 Glad to hear that you've found a garage to work in! It makes all the difference in the world.

I will be setting up my propane heater in my garage soon so I can install my second Talon and do a few other odds and ends to my boat too.

Looks like all the snow we've been getting might insulate the ice, and lows in the teens all week won't help. Hope the 1st week of March is in the high 40's.

At this point we will need some nice weather in early March if we hope for a thaw by mid-March, unless the last week of Feb. is unusually warm.

Another day, another little bit of snow added to the ground. 

On the brighter side, the days are getting longer! It's no longer dark at 5 PM. Still fully light at 5:15

Looks like we might be catching a little break in the weather during the next 10 days.


I'm seeing a handful of days in the mid 30s, all the way into the lower 40s, along with some rain here and there.


Maybe there's still hope for a somewhat early that? 


We'll see how this goes.

There's not a lot of ice on the ponds so it will go quick if the weather turns and we get rain!

Add some wind to that rain and it'll be gone even sooner!

Looks like all day tomorrow we are going to get a bunch of rain. So that will put a hurting on the snow on top of the ice as well. Maybe it wont be so long until we are back on the water!

For the next several days it's supposed to be cold. But toward the middle of next week it's supposed to be 40 for a few days in a row!

We are definitely to the point of February where the weather doesn't know what it wants to do. I am just glad we aren't dealing with the negative temps like they are in Oklahoma, Texas and all the other midwest states too.

I am really, really itching to get back on the water.

Texas is getting hammered. I feel really bad for them because they're just not equipped to handle cold weather, snow and ice, especially for extended periods of time.

I'm also itching to hit the water again, but don't want to do so unless it gets at least into the 50s
