How to Fix a Squeaky or Squealy Minn Kota Talon
« on: August 16, 2020, 01:38:20 PM »
I bought a new Minn Kota Talon for my boat two weeks ago.

It arrived and I installed it myself last a day later. I was super excited to finally have one and couldn't wait to try it out.

I hit the water Monday evening and moved out away from the shoreline and hit the button on the remote to deploy it.

Down it went, but then I heard a squeaking noise that I wasn't expecting.

It worked perfectly, but for a half second or so, it squeaked.

During the next few days I did tons of research to see what might be causing it. Ultimately, Minn Kota told me to take it to a local service center to have it looked at.

I was unwilling to do that unless I absolutely had to, since I had just bought it and was counting on having it to use for an upcoming tourney.

So, I decided to fix it myself. And now it works flawlessly

And here's what I did to fix my squeaky Talon.

Your going to love it. now you need a anchor light for it so you don't have to use the stick in pole light anymore. I have the RMP one, not cheap but i got a black friday deal on mine!

Actually, now that I looked again, the light that is on mine isn't an anchor light. Looks like I need to buy one!

@Joe P I got in touch with the owner of Tricked Out Marine with some questions about his anchor light for the Talon. Looks like I will be buying his product and installing it. No more pole light for me!

I want to mount some permanent bow nav lights next. Just have to get over the fear of drilling holes in my hull  ;D

Just placed my order for the Talon anchor light.

@Joe P I don't blame you for not wanting to drill holes in your hull!  (giggle)

I just used the LED strips for the bow and they work perfectly, with no drilling at all.
