Made the move to Ultrex
« on: April 28, 2020, 10:49:24 AM »
Finally made the move. Installed it myself. Fairly difficult due to Tracker boats really not making it easy to get under the bow. My arms were just long enough to reach from the foot pedal tray. Kind of surprised that Tracker used 4 bolts and 2 screws in the from for the existing trolling motor. Overall a clean install.

Nice! Like to do that myself in the future.    Does the factory cover still fit if you have one?

Not really. Where the trolling motor is it wont reach to under the edge of the boat. So it still works but it's not longer a solid 3 season travel cover.

@Brazzy Happy for you that you did this! I hope to move to the Ultrex in the future, but want to add a Talon first, provided my current trolling motor holds up long enough to allow me that luxury

Please keep us posted down the road as you get used to using it, letting us know what you like, don't like, etc.

I can see myself using the spot lock feature many, many times in the wind

Thanks Curt. I made the decision last fall when I was smally fishing on the cape that I needed to do something. Cold windy day and I was blasting them in deep water except I didnt have the juice to stay on them, and it was super hard to be landing a fish and stay on the trolling motor as the heavy winds pushed me off the spot. I knew I had to go with a beefier trolling motor with some type of spot lock type feature. I just didnt know if I should go with Garmin, Lowrance, or MK. I think in the long run those other options may turn out to be better but timing wise it made sense for me to make the move now since I am working so much now that I havent been able to take the boat out too much, so I went with the established product.

@Brazzy I think you made the right choice. The jury is still out on the competitors, and they will need time to perfect their products, as real-world users start putting them to the test on a large scale.

A lot of guys have had a upholstery shop modify their existing covers to fit the Ultrex. A good shop could do it reasonable and it wouldn't be noticeable when done!

For sure. Much cheaper than a new $600 cover!

I had Mark's Upholstery next to BPS extend my factory cover for my 190 BassTracker. What he did was add about 8 inches in the seam across the middle of the cover. Looks and works great. Material and labor I think was about $100.00. I will send you a picture if you want. Even if you take it somewhere else you could at least show them.

This is what I had done to my cover. The gray didn't match exactly so I asked for black. He added a piece about 9 inches wide, in where there was a seam already. Looks and works great.
