Has anyone taken a look at Daiwa?

I haven't tried any of their reels, but I have heard some good things about the Tatula series reels. Maybe at some point I will pick one up so I can write a review on it.  :hmm:

I just got the Tatula TWS SV in 8.1:1 for a light flipping set up. I havent used it a ton yet but I did purposely cast it straight down into the water to see what the story was with it. It only overspun a tad. Two arms length pulls and it was clear. The SV spool has some limitations due to low line capacity, but I can tell it has its place. This thing is smooth. I will post more about it when I get to play with it a bit more.

It'll be interesting to see how you like it over time.

I am Happy to say that Dicks Sporting goods will be refunding my PayPal! I got on the Chat, sent the guy my order number, told him about the tension knob how its a critical part of the reel, and he said since the reel is out of stock he will give me a refund, and I can keep the reel. So now I have a free reel I cant use. But I am glad I dont have a 45dollar paperweight, just a free paperweight!

Good deal!   Who needs a tension knob, just use your thumb  ;D

Hard to believe you can't find a knob to fit. you would think it's a standard thread?

I was thinking the same thing, Joe. But I wonder if maybe some of them are slightly different in their depth?  :hmm:

My guess is that if you tried a few different ones, @metz12 , you could probably find one that would suffice. Then you'd a have a free working reel instead of a free paperweight

I tried a few knobs from other reels that I have. Even another quantum reel I have. One off a very old baitcast reel, my abu garcias, and a bass pro reel I have. They are all a bigger diameter then the threads on the Escalade. I will keep trying to find something.

Wow. That's really odd. Another strike against Quantum  (giggle)

Right? I think I am done with that company. I am going to do some research and see what company has a lot interchangeable parts for their reels. Its really ridiculous that a reel is junk because of one irreplaceable knob. I am looking into the Kastking reels. I have to get out on the water and test out my new kastking baitcaster and see how I like it before getting another.

Which KastKing model do you currently have?

The Royale Legend is a great reel for the money. I have one that's 3 or so years old and it has been a good reel. Not sure if the newer ones use the exact same braking system or not, but mine tends to be a bit finicky at times. I believe they have upgraded the brakes since then, so you will probably find it to be a good reel also

I used a Royal Legend last year on my buzzbait rod. Decent reel and pulled some nice fish in with it.

This year i bought a Piscifun Torrent to try, got it on sale for $27. Only used it once so far but i really like it.
It feels a little smaller in my hand than the Kastking and it also feels smoother. I want to try the Phantom series next.
A little more money but gets rave reviews!

I bought one of those two weeks ago, Joe and tried it for the first time a couple days ago. It feels really good for the $32 I spent on it!

The Royale Legend casts much more freely, with greater distance, but the Torrent seems much less prone to backlashing, since the spool doesn't spin quite as freely. Overall, I think the Torrent will be a great reel.

I have the 2000 model on a 5ft Ugly Stik which I love. I also picked up the Flame med duty and that sits on a 6'5" Berkely Cherrywood rod. Love the smoothness of the reels. Only used the 2000 model last season, and the Flame only a couple times in the fall (broke the original rod) :(

Loving the quality for the price. Nice heavy reels. I run Spiderwire braided 10# on both.
