Overlooked Pawtuxet
« on: June 09, 2019, 02:25:50 PM »
I think too many people overlook the Pawtuxet River. You won't set any records there but there are numerous fish of different species willing to bite your lures. The Largemouth generally run about 2 lbs with some bigger ones occasionally and the Smallmouth tend to be small, around 8 to 10". There are some surprise fish in there also. There are probably 20+ miles of river between the North and South Branch. While some sections in Cranston and Providence are dirty and unpleasant, the upper sections in other towns are clear and clean.

Small rivers like that are always overlooked by most anglers. Most times that's a good thing  ;)

Are there any areas where you can but a bass boat or trailer in a boat in the Northern end of the river?

@Bob W - RI , all the sections I fish are from my canoe. Even if you were able to launch, you wouldn't get a 1/4 mile, lots of shallow water, rocks and sand bars. Maybe the first section on 116 in Hope but I don't know if that's legal.

Toadhunter ,    That's what I was thinking, near Hope. I have seen some areas with beaches just after the spillway of the reservoir, that look like a nice area. I would think its legal from there on.  Wouldn't want to go to far down stream due to depth and water conditions.
