2019 Skunk is out of the boat!
« on: April 07, 2019, 05:40:02 PM »
Got out today to de-winterize the boat and take a few casts. Picked up my first bass of the year so the SKUNK is officially out of the boat. LOL
Wish I could have spent more time on the water but yard work was the theme of the weekend.  :crying: Felt great to take some casts!

Very Jealous!! I was hoping to head out today, but my Brakes in my jeep went. So that means no boat towing for me! Hoping to be able to get out on the water by the end of this week.

That is awesome. Still waiting for iceout here. Florida doesn't count. Non scoreable. Can't wait for jerk, jerk, pause! Congrats!

I wish I was a better jerkbait angler. For some reason I just don't seem to use a jerkbait enough to get better at it.  :hmm:

Its funny that I was in the exact same boat. I grew up for shallow weedy ponds and never really had a need for it. It wasnt until I started fishing deeper clear lakes that it completely opened up my eyes. These things straight up produce all season long. It takes a couple of days on a lake with a high population to get confidence in it but if you got out in early May to a place like a stafford and just commit to it you will absolutely stack fish all day. In terms of efficiency it can cover water and put fish in the boat at a high rate and still be able to slow down to get bit in 40 degree water. On a smallmouth lake they will chew the paint of them this time of year. Its been maybe 6 or 7 years now but I now have a rod dedicated to throwing one. Definitely a must have in the rotation. The great thing is.. its pretty easy. You are a KVD youtube video and a couple of days on the water away from being a good jerkbait angler.

@Brazzy You hit the nail on the head right there. I don't fish many deep clear water lakes, hence the lack of jerkbait fishing experience.

I know they produce some insane results for people who fish the clear water. Maybe I just need to do what you said and put in a couple of days with them to gain confidence.

Thanks for the great feedback!

I have good luck around here with them before the spawn and before the weeds get to bad.

That right there is key for the lakes in our area. Most of them get pretty weeded up by the end of May.

Thats right. I have never caught a fish on a jerkbait. I have on a fluke, worked like a jerkbait, but I put those kind of in the senko category. Fishing a lot of the same bodies of water as Curt and Joe, there is a lot of shallow water, and a lot of weeds where I fish. There are only a few lakes around that I fish that get above 10 FOW and I usually dont even fish in that deep of water! One of my buddies that I fish with loves the jerkbait. Especially at Echo, and all he does is catch pickerel and pogey snags perch when he throws it. That could be a reason for me to not want to throw one either!  ;D
