Spawn is near

This fish was up shallow on a sandy bank. She looked like she was about to pop.

I was up at Echo today, and there were fish on beds. One guy came in with a 6.9 tank of a fish cruising in 3 FOW. All my fish today came shallow, mostly in 1-4 FOW with one being in about 8. Sadly all males though

Yes, the spawn is about to happen!

I fished CHapman Pond Friday afternoon and the water temp was nudging 70 degrees!

I caught over a dozen bass in 2 1/2 hours, all tight to shore. Most were males, but I did hook and lose a beast of a female in the same area where I caught a couple males.

Water temp there today was back down to 64-65, but I know the spawn is on for the next few weeks.

@Curt - RI , caught some fish on beds in a foot of water today by twitching a frog over their heads.

Hey that is a good tip right there. Hopefully will help me out in my next couple tourneys. Throwing it in the morning or just all day?

@metz12 , I generally only fish in the AM, but it should work all day if it's not to sunny.

If they are slapping at that frog and don't want to eat it switch it up to a floating jerkbait and just lightly tick it over their beds. Even if they slap at it, you should get them. That's also a great way to find smally beds since those are in deeper water. The floating jerkbait will get them to come up and show themselves.

@metz12 , how did the tourney go?

Pretty well! I put together my first limit alone, and I did not come in dead last! Found most of my fish in 1-4 FOW. 5 out of the 6 fish came off a paddletail swimbait and one off a spinnerbait. My final cull was a good pound upgrade, so that felt good. My biggest fish though was less than 2 1/2 pounds if I remember right. I was actually closer to the lunker then I had expected. I did try a decent amount of topwater, but could not put anything together. My next tourney is at Wordens pond next weekend. I feel confident I can put together a good bag there if I can get a good spot right off the bat.
