Anyone have an idea as to the thickness of the ice locally?

Based on the weather, we should be well past 4 inches by now.

I'm not surprised at all 

And I think you're right.. unless something changes quickly, we're probably looking at close to 2 feet by the time it's over

I heard or saw that Saturday it is going to be -7 degrees and who know what the wind chill will be! Bet that helps to thicken the ice!

Not sure how much ice is still out there. If we did in fact have 12 inches, then it's probably still pretty thick.

But the past couple of days has put a hurt on the snow cover and I even saw a big dark spot on Chapman's Pond yesterday when I drove by. I also saw a lot of very wet ice in the local marshes. I'm sure a lot of the water on top of the ice is from the snow melting, but with the temperature today in the mid 50s and rain on the way, it has to be thinning the ice at least a little bit. 

Looks like next week is supposed to cool back down, though. So I'm sure it will freeze back up again pretty quickly. We'll see, though, since there are also supposed to be a fair number of days next week that are well above freezing too.

This weekend should put a hurt on the ice across the state!


Not sure about the northern half of the state, but my guess is that we'll be seeing some open water here by next weekend.

Chapmans is wide open, i imagine Wordens would be also!

No real cold temps in the near forecast, lets hope it continues

Well, I didn't think I would be having to post this again this year, but some of the ice is coming back 


Everything is still wide open, but the small areas, like swampy areas and very small ponds with lots of shade are showing skim ice again this morning.


Last night got down into the mid 20s here in Westerly, and the next two or three nights are supposed to be very cold also. So it wouldn't surprise me to see even more ice by mid week.


Even worse, the daytime temps are also supposed to stay low, with not a single day hitting 50 degrees in the next 10 days.
