Getting boat ready after sitting 2 years
« on: March 17, 2016, 03:14:08 PM »
My boat has been sitting for 2 years due to some health issues, but I'm hoping to get it back out this year.  Aside from all the usual spring checks and minor fixes, there is about 10 gallons of gas in the boat.  I'm feel like I should probably get rid of it, but it is good bit of fuel.  Does anyone else have experience with a boat sitting for long periods of time like this or suggestions?

Use it in the lawn mower. If it kills that you will have more time to fish. Wouldn't trust it in the boat.

Glad your health is getting better and that you will be back on the water. We still have a spot in the club if you can make it back. I agree with using it in a mower. I drain my gas from my boat every year and use it in my mower, power washer, or generator and have no issues. I put fresh gas and a conditioner in the boat and I am good. Hope to see you on the water soon.

What everyone else said. Drain it out. Don't chance it in the boat!

After you drain as much as possible from the tank, put 10 gallons of fresh premium gas in the tank, along with some stabilizer and you should be good to go, barring any junk in your fuel lines or carbs from the gas sitting in there for 2 years.

And, as Bob said, glad you're getting back out there!
