Topic: Bass Fishing on Block Island??

I've heard rumors over the years that Block Island has some good freshwater bass fishing. I've looked at it online and it does actually have a good number of freshwater ponds on it.

Has anyone here ever fished for largemouth bass on the island?

I havent but I have a friend that used to live there. I will ask him if he has ever heard anything about larrys on the block.

I've heard locals say theres enough freshwater ponds out there to fish a different one every day of the year!!!   I drive by some when I'm out there and wish I could get out to them.  Someday I hope

Yes.... I caught fish every time I fished there when I was a kid, I had a place to crash over there that was owned by an old girlfriends family. I would mostly go in may when things were pretty quiet over there. My biggest bass on the block was 5lb.12oz and most were in the 2lb class back then. There is a bunch of good water to explore if you can gain access.

Is the majority of it private land, or are there plenty of public waters to fish?

Get yourself a pair of clippers some old sneakers and have at it! I would say most of them are on private land but I never had one person give me an ounce of problem back in the 80's so you would have to go to know.
There is a bait and tackle store on the island that knows quite a bit about the freshwater fishing, give them a call.

Someone supposedly caught a 7lber on the island around the 4th of July, so the story goes.

A buddy of mine that used to live over there said there are some ponds to fish over there that has big bass. Some of the locals from the island that fish saltwater normally fish for bass in the ponds when all the tourists come in and they want to fish saltwater because of the riptides its a great spot to striper fish. The ponds I assume have very little pressure.

For sure. But I do little, if any, saltwater fishing

Good question. My guess is probably not, since the ponds are located well above sea level. But I guess anything is possible.

Yep. Check out the sheer drop-off around this end of the island. Definitely a bit above sea level!
