2015 Ice Conditions Update

Drove by Chapman Pond this afternoon - 100% ice coverage. My guess is that there will be people out there within 48 hours ice fishing.

So now the waiting begins for it to melt in the Spring...

That wind was howling for sure. Wind chill factors were down into the double digits below zero  :o

Today is balmy, though, in comparison, with high temps expected to top out at about 20 and much less wind  ;D

Ice in the Westerly, RI area is definitely safe, for the most part. Saw several groups of people ice fishing this weekend on Chapman Pond.

I also drove by the lower end of the Pawcatuck River and found the saltwater areas of the river frozen over.

Not sure how this will hold up with the temperatures coming tomorrow, but I'm willing to bet the lakes sta frozen and probably won't open up now until February or March.

I wonder what Chapman has on it right now. That place is only 3-4 feet deep to begin with. 2 feet of ice wouldn't leave much water there either  :P

I hear ya. Looks like next week will continue to be cold. But... I dared to check the extended forecast and they are calling for some warmer temps after the 1st of March. We'll see how that all goes very soon.

I've been driving for over 35 years and I only remember two other time I was able to drive my truck out on the ice in RI and feel it was safe to be out there. I'll be out there this weekend tearing it up. Ice truckin....

  Post some pictures. I don't think i have ever seen any trucks or cars on any RI waters before. Then again, I don't ice fish and are never near any water when its that cold either. Be safe!
