« on: April 04, 2011, 01:58:23 PM »

From what I have seen in the past, they typically raise it slowly during the month of April. How fast it comes up will depend a lot on how much rain we get.

Maybe someone else has more specific info??

The dam at echo is Privately owned and is normally left open well into April. but when thy close it fills fast. If I remember this is an ongoing gripe between the dam owner and the property owners.

I think Rob L will have much more info on this than I have

I haven't been by there in about a week or so. I originally went by it will 2 weeks ago this Friday and couldn't beleive how low it was.  It was probably the lowest I ahve seen it.  The water was just at the very last cement slab that makes up the ramp.  I went by the following Tuesday so a little over a week ago and it was about 5 feet further down than that.  There was hardly any water on the small side across the street from the ramp.  The 2 big rocks in front of the ramp were just about out of the water.  Talking with a aldy that was going for a walk and said she lived there she had no idea when they were going to close the dam.
It was a gripe over the darn several years ago and I had thought the association had taken control of the dam because of this exact situation but I could be wrong.  A few years ago it was dropped right around Labor day and I couldn't launch all fall. In the spring it wasn't as low as it it now and I couldn't launch there till mid May.  Will be interesting to see when they close the dam and how fat it fills.  Its too bad because its usually a good bite there right now.

Don't bass clubs rush to have early tournaments there due to the Memorial day to Labor motor rule?

Not anymore, If a club pulls a permit with the state as they are supose to do, there is no motor restrictions for the tournaments year round.
Men and fish are alike, they both get in trouble when they open their mouths...

I have heard from a few people that the dam is now in controll of the town and not an individual land owner like it once was. I have also been told the they closed the dam a few weeks back and just after that the rain stopped. Now with all of the rain the last week I am sure it is on its way back up. Maybe someone local can update us this week. I dont fish there often seeing there is a lot more lake I like better that are not as far away for me. Gas $$$$$$ is allways something to consider too!    ;)

I stopped by today and as Bob W is right seems like the dam is closed.  Water has come up about 5 feet but at this point I don't beleive launchable.  Did see a guy and assuming his son carry a small john boat down and fished.  Hopefully in a few weeks. Will keep everyone posted
