Jan. 11th, and yes this is an open water report.
« on: January 13, 2011, 10:10:05 PM »
Well, after a couple of ice fishing trips I needed to cast a rod and reel. I pack up some jigs and left over shiners from the last ice trip. Took off to a local pond that has some running water entering it. within a few cast with the jig I started to catch fish.

Ended up catching around 11 or 12 bass on the jig, then it was the shiners turn. This allowed me to catch another 10 or so bass. lots of 12 inchers, but a few in the 2lb range, and one going close to 4lbs. It was great to get the rod bending before the storm came in and I was stuck shoveling for 2 days.

Good for Dennis! Were you fishing from your boat or were you on shore?

I was fishing from the shore, but this is a location that I usually run to with the boat when the ice first comes off.

Fought my way back into there again today. Had to drive 1 mile and a half through 20 inches of snow and then walk another mile through the snow. When I got to the area that I had fished the other day, I had lost half of the open water that I had do to the few nights below zero. But, did manage to catch 2 bass, both keepers with the best going 2 1/2. I didn' t bring any shiners this time, but think it would have helped to get another couple of bites

Nice job!!! I'm surprised there were any bass  in a part of the lake that has running water this time of the year.
