Favorite lakes in CT
« on: August 04, 2010, 06:02:23 PM »
Just wanted to get a feel for what are the best lakes in CT. If you guys had to pick your top three lakes in Ct, what would they be? These would be the best largemouth/ smallie lakes.

For big LMB, Amos Lake is tough to beat for me. It's one of my  favorite CT lakes.

Gardner Lake used to be a good lake for smallies, but the number of big fish has declined recently, especially since they put the new launch in.

I don't like Beach Pond very much, but the smallmouth population there has been on the rise in recent years.

See the map here: Amos Lake

My picks would be Candlewood, Lillinonah and Zoar as they are the only CT lakes that I have fished  ;D. Favorite water body though is the Ct river.

Hitting Lake Hayward for the first time tomorrow. I am basically going blind. I have never seen a map of the lake nor do I know anybody who has fished the lake. Does anybody have any suggestions as to where to start? I am going with my father-in-law, so I am not getting to the lake until 7:00am. Should I just start throwing a search bait and move quickly until I find fish or try some plastics around the weedy launch?

If it was me I would cover water until I found some likely-looking spots and then probe them more thoroughly with a Senko, worm, jig, etc.

Let us know how you make out!
