Some Good Deals At Dick's
« on: January 23, 2010, 02:09:01 PM »
At the mall in Waterford right now... just left Dick's a few minutes ago, where I got some good deals.

Picked up a new St. Croix Mojo Bass 7 ft. MH rod for jig fishing. Price was $89.99.

I also found some Cordell Super Spots for $1.47 each and Stanley spinnerbaits for about $2 each.

Had about $125 worth of goodies and by the time I got done redeeming gift cards and coupons I only owed about $40!!

Looks like they're starting to do some late Winter price markdowns, so there should be some great deals during the next few weeks.  :)

np Joe! Wanted to get the word out there before everything disappears.

I forgot to mention that Terminators are also on sale for $3.47.

I didn't see any sales on rods or reels, but I wasn't really looking at any rods besides the one I bought.

WOW!...nice price on the St Croix. Good luck with the new rod. I have 3 St Croix sticks, although I don't have that particular one, but I really like them.

I have to laugh. I wanted to get a good feel for this rod before I actually bought it. So I brought my favorite jig fishing reel with me as well as a 3/8 oz. Jig.

I mounted the reel on the rod and tied the jig on and then spent about 10 minutes pitching the jig around in the aisle before I knew for sure that the rod was what I wanted. I figured I might have looked a little foolish, but at least I know that the rod was what I wanted before I laid down the cash  ;)

IMHO, Curt, that is the way retailers should always allow you to test a new rod but not many have the room for pitching or casting.  When I went to Bass Pro in Foxboro last year they were talking about having a casting pond out back.  In fact, you can see a wooden walkway that leads down toward that swampy looking area behind the store.

I agree 100%. Being able to pitch for a few minutes gave me a good overall feel for the rod, although casting wasn't possible. I did go through the motions of starting to cast, just to get a good feel for the action of the tip section of the rod... flexibility, etc.

Nothing worse than buying a rod and getting it home only to find that it has a tip that's too stiff.

Almost!

Right after I pitched the jig once, some kid came around the corner and almost stepped on it.

I bet if I had set the hook, he would have put up a great fight  :o
