Air Temp: 35 - 50

Water Temp: 48 - 51

Conditions: Mostly Sunny, Cold, Windy

Cover: Scattered Weeds & Rocks

Baits: 3/8 oz. Chance's Jig, White 1/2 oz. Hawgstomper Pro Series Spinnerbait

SRIBA had its first tournament of 2003 today, from 7:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Conditions weren't the greatest, with morning temps pretty cold, but it could have been a lot worse.

I landed my first fish at 7:10 AM on a Jig & Pig. It was a decent looking fish. I guessed it to be at least 3 1/2 lbs. or a little better. Then I went over 4 hours with no bites.

I finally hooked up again at Noon by throwing a white spinnerbait on a wind-blown point. This was another decent fish, looking to be close to 3 lbs.

That was it for the day.

As we weighed in, I didn't think I stood much of a chance of placing. As it ended up, though, I had the tourney lunker at 3.98 lbs. and just missed 2nd place with a total weight of 6.86 lbs. Stan McHardy took the second place spot with 6.89 lbs., just 3/100ths of a lb. ahead of me (less than half an ounce)  :o

I'll let Stan post a report telling how he landed his fish.

Overall, not a bad way to start the season!
