Johnson's pond-Zeeke's bridge side
« on: March 30, 2003, 11:49:59 AM »
Got out for a couple of hours with the boys Saturday to fish a little and try out the new trolling motor....
Water temps already 54-56.... :D
Air temps 61-63
Cloudy, with periods of wind and light rain
Caught 3 LMB, largest just under 3 lbs and a few pickerel..  All my bass came on 3/8 oz chancesjigs (blue/purple) on wood in 6-8 feet.  Ryan got one of the small LMB on a black/red jig up shallow in 1-2 feet.

Sure is nice to be out again....

Catch any keeper trout  on that side, I'm preaty sure they RI DEP stock the river portion below that bridge.  I hear that CT DEP stocked Amos an Beach through the ice this year...and a couple of anglers have reported a lot of 9 inch fish put into amos this year.  Anyone know if RI Stocks on average larger trout? Just curious..

The big river fishing area near I-95 is up river from Zeekes bridge and is usually stocked with trout.  In past years, with heavy spring rains, some of the trout get washed down into Johnson's and you will pick some up here and there.  None on this trip (of course I was throwing a jig for the most part), maybe the rains we had last couple of days will change that...

Marty, on average RI stocks a much bigger trout than CT. CT stocks more in terms of quantity, but the quality just isn't there.

If you want a big trout, RI is definitely the state to fish in.
