General Non-Fishing Chatter / OK... It's Official
« on: March 09, 2003, 12:16:02 PM »
Well, late yesterday afternoon, just before dark, I saw 5 Robins in my back yard ;D

I know this doesn't mean that we will have no more snow or cold weather, but at least it IS a positive sign!

Today is a definite tease, with temps finally clmbing into the mid 40s and the snow and ice melting at a pretty rapid rate.

We just need to hang in there for a little while longer...

Thanks Bob ;D

I just hope that more of the members will start adding their input to the topics.

We have some really knowledgeable anglers that are members, but many of them just like to read and not be heard  :-\

General Non-Fishing Chatter / Record Temps?
« on: March 04, 2003, 06:49:04 AM »
OK... this morning I had a whopping temperature of 1 degree at 6:30 AM. This was colder than yesterday's morning temp of 9 degrees.

Does anyone know if we are breaking any records for low temps for the month of March? I am sure that there must be somewhere we can look for this info, but I haven't had the time to do so.

Charles, you guys must really be breaking records this year too!

The days are getting longer... the sun is higher in the sky each day... something has to break sooner or later!  ::)

Mitz,

I don't know who you have your homeowners insurance through, but many times they will give you a discount for buying multiple policies through them... worth a shot!

I do this and only pay about $175.00 per year for mine.

The Hawg Forum / Re:Ice out ( when do you think )
« on: March 01, 2003, 03:28:54 PM »
honestly?? I think it is possible that we may have ice-out in some areas during the 3rd or 4th week of March if things happen right... maybe even sooner, but it will take a real good warming trend with some good rain thrown in there too!

If things don't warm up considerably in the next week or so, though, we just might be looking at April for open water  :'(

The Hawg Forum / Fishing Gimmicks
« on: March 01, 2003, 03:25:52 PM »
The number of new fishing gimmicks each year never ceases to amaze me!

Browsing through the most recent issue of Bassmaster magazine I noticed a particular article. I didn't even bother reading it after I read the title and brief description of what it was about.

This article was extolling the virtues of using red hooks on baits and for soft plastics, supposedly to fool the fish into thinking that the bait is bleeding!

Please! Do they think bass fishermen are complete morons? Don't get me wrong, I fully believe that certain colors can and will induce strikes under certain conditions, but to say that these red hooks fool bass into thinking that their prey is bleeding is complete nonsense. Since when do bass understand that blood is red? Besides that, bass live in a pretty-much bloodless environment. It's not like bass see their prey torn to shreds, with blood streaming from it as they eat it.

These are not sharks that we're after here. They are bass... sight and sound feeders.

OK... I've got that out of my system now. Anybody else have an opinion on this subject matter?? ;D

Actually, I am kinda looking too. In fact I was thinking about buying a new rod, but I just might get a new GPS if the price is right.

I am hoping to get some feedback from someone who has a unit and can give me some input based on their personal experiences on the water.

Joe, I checked out the site you listed, but I wasn't able to see anything for under $100 at a quick glance... maybe I didn't look far enough??

Anyway, anybody that has some input from personal experiences, please fill me in!!

Mitz,

believe it or not, you were one of the first ones that I thought of when I found out where the club was. I knew it was pretty close to where you are living now.

Glad to hear that you weren't there and that you are OK.

I have been keeping track of this all day long, as I am sure most of RI has been.

I feel for the families of anyone who perished in that fire and I pray for their emotional healing. I only hope, as Ray mentioned, that none of our fishing buddies or their family were there last night.

Good for you, Charles!

Honesty is always the best policy... even it does cost you a little cash :)

Bob, I think he was referring to the total cost of the licenses for RI and CT...

I had to think about that one too ;D

Steve,

must have been the good ol' kill switch ;D

I think we've all been there at one time or another!

I'll add my own tales of woe later today... right now, though, I have to go dig out from the snow storm  :o

Thanks!
