Struggled this season with big fish..... finally breaking the 5 pound mark earning lunker with a 5.74 at the NEPVA tournament. A few days later a near twin on a different lake
Caught this one in 27 foot of water "video" fishing.  I have some success with dropping on smallies but this is among the very few largemouth that I have successfully dropped on.

I was kicking myself for not getting up early and fished today. Opted for yard work instead. By noon I was stretched with sweat, got a lot done. Quit....
Got out of the shower to wind horizontal rain and STATIC. Facebook is full of pictures like this one from Sebago Lake

Of course Sebago is the lake I drive by when I go fishing 😎

Yesterday during my shortened trip up country in my annual quest for a 4lb brookie on a fly I was attacked. Hooked a fair salmon 15-16 inches; it was flying around like salmon do when a pair of thieves working together attacked my fish. My drag screams (like  it would for a 4lb brookie) and then stops. Thinking it broke off instead reel in a almost dead salmon with beak marks.
I had heard of loons doing this but first time as a witness/victim. Released the fish.....choke on this I said to the loon. It took it a while but watched it swallow it whole. Then the pair took position waiting for more.

This beast had a hook in its jaw with what looked to be 30 lb test. My Lucky Craft slender pointer dodged a bullet. Will need a few new trebles.

I need 7 like this one Saturday.

Drop shotted today. Never retied. Swung fish into the boat. Had a wind knot in the leader. Never losted a fish. Weird gloomy all day fog on Great Pond. Couldn't see shore most of the day.

Sunday's results would have been epic. 3 brook trout in the 2lb plus class and a togue  (lake trout) over 5lbs. Bright bluebird sky light and variable winds water warming to 46. 10 fish limit on Mousam 4 trout 4 bass for the loss. No one had a limit ....1 team with 9, 2 teams with 8. We did better on Damariscotta with 7 for 20.66 and a 2cnd. So finished in the black for the weekend. Jerked all weekend expect to do that again on Great Pond, Saturday. Reports that it is on fire. Can't wait.

Dale and I fished Great Pond yesterday. He caught this one in 55 ' on a silver buddy. I caught one not quite as big on a drop shot. Water was 42 degrees and fishing a little slow. All fish were deep 35 foot plus. 18 smallies 2 pike. Most fish very tight to bottom and slow to bite and if you could get one to commit more would follow. We caught 5 or 6 in the span of a few minutes several times throughout the day. Gorgeous day for December

When you search for that discontinued color on that favorite bait. This arrived from the Ukraine (they have fish there...really?) Right color wrong bait. Probably won't return though. Hope I don't fall in love with it. Wh a t if it works?

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / I need to "fun" fish more often
« on: August 03, 2016, 08:19:57 PM »
This time of year my fishing is all about tournaments....either in one or prepping for an upcoming one. Yesterday I spent the day on China Lake getting ready for Saturday and came home even more clueless if that was possible. We lost there last weekend by 25 pounds (we had a limit too) Totally frustrating day and not particularly fun. A friend called and wanted to do the Belgrades, Mesalonski in the morning Great Pond in the afternoon. Light and variable winds bright skies 85 degrees perfect! We had a smallie bonanza top water all day spinnerbaits all day2 1/2 - 3lb smallies crushing explosive strike aerobatics with lots of meaningless lost fish and miss strikes. Fish were on flats in both lakes 7-12  foot. We ended the day with 50 smallies 3 pike ( one we fed to an eagle so cool) 25 in the Morning on Mesalonski 25 in the afternoon on GP. Dale was on fire with the chug bug I burned a spinnerbait. We might have been able to break the 100 mark had we boated all that struck. I broke 3 spinnerbaits and stopped adding a trailer hook after the first. Anyway, a fun fun day. Back to tournaments Saturday. Pressure back on we are tied for first in the trail. Want sole possession! Today was a nice break. Needed it.

Northeast U.S. Fishing Reports / Great day on Kezar Lake
« on: July 15, 2016, 09:37:49 PM »
I didn't fish but had a great day. Last minute addition to the boaters taking kids out from Bass camp at Bryant Pond a 4H/University of Maine program. Glad I said yes when I got the call seeking volunteers. Had a blast. Two great kids who absolutely love fishing. Had been studying bass all week and were focused on catching bass rather than Pokemon. I came away with hope for mankind. Lol Brought me back 40 or so years. The kids caught a few giants that should never have got to the net. 10lb line wimpy rods and a pathetic net man. First time on Kezar for me in decades....I will go back. Definitely will volunteer next year...might do whole week. Wish Bass Camp was an option for me back in the day but then again that was my summer; a pole a bike and a row boat on the river. Got to relive that for a few hours. A great day.
