What tracker are you getting, fully rigged or john boat ?  If your getting a rigged boat it will come with a basic unit!

He's buying a used Tracker.

The unit you're looking at seems to be a lot of bang for the buck. The description says it has GPS, but it doesn't show any screens related to the GPS in the available images, so I'm not sure what GPS functions it offers. And before buying anything, be sure to read lots and lots of reviews!

Also, shop around for pricing!!

Tackle Warehouse has it for less than Lowrance does:

I did some poking around and I didn't find any reviews for this anywhere, so it's either really new, or very few people have bought it. As I said, though, do your homework before buying!

General Non-Fishing Chatter / 18 - Three Days in a Row!
« on: January 19, 2018, 09:50:19 AM »
Three mornings in a row the temp has been 18. Some seriously consistent temps!!

With that said, it also means that the ice is still getting thicker, not thinner  :crying:

One thing's for sure. all of this ice will hang a number on heavy weeds and lay them down for a while

I stopped by the Chapman Pond launch this afternoon to take a look at the dock and see how it's holding up with the ice.

No signs of damage whatsoever. Looks like they buried those piling pretty deep!

On a side not, I can see where someone decided to drive on the area in front of the big sign next to the ramp and left deep tire ruts there in the newly excavated soil

Please, people, drive on and in the driveway and parking area, but stay off the areas where they're trying to grow grass!!

11" on Wordens before this rain.  Gonna be a while to get rid of that!

Definitely agree! Thanks @Joe P

Not sure how much ice is still out there. If we did in fact have 12 inches, then it's probably still pretty thick.

But the past couple of days has put a hurt on the snow cover and I even saw a big dark spot on Chapman's Pond yesterday when I drove by. I also saw a lot of very wet ice in the local marshes. I'm sure a lot of the water on top of the ice is from the snow melting, but with the temperature today in the mid 50s and rain on the way, it has to be thinning the ice at least a little bit.

Looks like next week is supposed to cool back down, though. So I'm sure it will freeze back up again pretty quickly. We'll see, though, since there are also supposed to be a fair number of days next week that are well above freezing too.

Fishing Tackle & Equipment Reviews / Lew's Carbon Fire Rod
« on: January 10, 2018, 10:24:22 AM »
I picked up a new Lew's Carbon Fire rod at Dick's Sporting Goods a few weeks ago. I had never seen them before, but when I picked it up the first thing I noticed was that it felt like a feather in my hand. Super light!

It's a 6' 10" medium action that I will be playing with, to see what suits it best with regard to lures, techniques, etc. Right now I'm thinking it might make a good Senko rod, for the 5 and 6 inch baits fished weightless. Won't know for sure until I actually get on the water with it.

Once I get to spend dome time actually using it, I will post an update here to give my feedback.

Well, after being battered by extreme cold, a potential new record low temperature tonight, and a major Nor' Easter, it looks like we'll be catching a break next week!

Not sure if it's a January thaw, or just a general change in the weather trends. But, either way, next week is looking like 30s and 40s all week! They're even hinting at a slight possibility of breaking the 50 degree mark on Friday  :o

Not sure yet how much of it will actually happen, but at least it gives us a glimmer of hope of getting some weather that's a bit more "normal".

Personally, I'm looking forward to it.

I'm hearing up to 8 inches already.   Going to be one of those 16" + years i think!

I'm not surprised at all  :nope:

And I think you're right.. unless something changes quickly, we're probably looking at close to 2 feet by the time it's over

Anyone have an idea as to the thickness of the ice locally?

Based on the weather, we should be well past 4 inches by now.
