Title: Wondering About The Weather
Post by: Curt - RI on April 20, 2017, 10:16:57 AM
I haven't had a chance to get out the last few days, and I know water temps had to have dropped some due to the cooler days and nights.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has been out, and what the water temps are at right now.

I'm also wondering if anyone happened to see any beds during that warm spell, and if any bass might have actually started spawning then.  :hmm:

@Curt - RI , caught one with a roughed up tail, but never saw a bed.

water temps are in the upper 70s and the spawn is in full swing on the lower end of the lake.catching good fish on docks that have 18 to 25 feet of water nearby on white or clear senkos. ::) ::)

@toadhunter That kind of confirms my suspicions that some fish had actually moved in and started to fan beds during that warm spell. My gut feeling tells me, though, that the majority of the fish pulled back off the beds when the temps dropped.

I've been catching them on jigs during the warm spell, they definitely have pulled back some, just got to find those drop off areas. 8)

Definitely. Just need to find that first drop off or some weed beds that are just outside of spawning areas, maybe slightly deeper

@Curt - RI , today @ProvidenceBassHunter caught a bass that was definitely full of eggs which he just posted in the photos forum.

Definitely full of eggs! And no signs of tail wear at all. My guess is probably early May, as is typical around here.

I was up in Northern RI, this past thursday.  Temps were 58-60.  Caught a handful and a few had nice fat bellies.  Didn't hook on to any lunkers, but the females I did catch, definitely had eggs.

Thanks for the info @ink_n_metal The next few weeks should be excellent as we lead up to the spawn
