Deep pike
« on: December 03, 2016, 10:40:24 PM »

Dale and I fished Great Pond yesterday. He caught this one in 55 ' on a silver buddy. I caught one not quite as big on a drop shot. Water was 42 degrees and fishing a little slow. All fish were deep 35 foot plus. 18 smallies 2 pike. Most fish very tight to bottom and slow to bite and if you could get one to commit more would follow. We caught 5 or 6 in the span of a few minutes several times throughout the day. Gorgeous day for December

Wow! 55 feet  :o

That's amazing for sure. How the heck do you even feel a nite at 55 feet? Must just get heavy?

Most of the time a buddy bite feels like you snagged a rock. Sometimes they do hit it on the bottom and you feel a tick like a jig bite. Pike fight different than smallies, doesn't take long to know you have something different going on.

20' is a boat length 40' just 2. It is nothing to make a 50' cast.

Very true. I never thought of it like that. Kind of takes away the intimidation factor when you look at it that way. Especially when you realize that you are typically fishing vertically if you're fishing in 40+ feet

Thanks for bringing that up
