I talked to a friend that had a club tournament there ( Watchaug ) last week and he said they had to get in the water and push the boat out!

Bob W

Happens a lot there this time of year. Boats have to be dragged (literally) across the flat after being launched, until they reach where the water starts to get deeper.

Many, many years ago we held an open there and a bunch of our club members showed up the day before the tourney and shoveled a trench across the flat. Then on tourney morning, we had a Coleman Crawdad there that we used to shuttle tourney participants out to their boats.

It was a lot of work, but it made the tourney doable.

He he... Yep! You and I were there digging out that trench on Friday morning, along with a couple other guys who also worked second or third shift  (giggle)

We worked our butts off

Glad I read this post! Was going to hit up Indian Lake for the first time ever tomorrow morning. I'm in a 17' G3 Eagle, so I will probably have trouble here it sounds like?? We're trying to go for smallies, any other lakes in RI that have any (we're in northern RI)? Also, someone mentioned Worden's is probably too low too--can anyone confirm? That was our backup!  ??? ???

Try Wallum lake up in northern RI. Lots of smallies and shouldn't have any issue with water levels. Lots of water traffic during the day. Good luck if you go.

Thanks @Bob W - RI ! We ended up at Smith and Sayles. Fished from about 630-1000. Only got three?all small.  I've always wanted to try Wallum. Where is the boat access? I was researching online and I could only find a hand carry boat launching area. No ramp or anything. Does it need to be accessed on the Douglas, MA side??

Wallum boat access is in MA. But RI licenses are valid there too. The quality of the fish there has declined badly during the last 5 years, but quantity should be OK.

A friend of mine with an older Tracker got in there last week, but he had to get in the water to drag his boat across the shallow area immediately off of the ramp. With the falling water temps, I won't be wading into any lakes to launch my boat  :nope:

Yeah I don't want to do that. I wonder if yesterday's rain made a difference.

Watchaug was still un-launchable  last week also.  Gonna take some serious rain to bring the lake levels up :-\

I doubt it. We did get over an inch, but it's going to take 6 inches or more to make a substantial difference. Most lakes are down at least 2 feet, with some even more than that.

I've been doing all my fishing in CT the last few weeks simply because the ramps in southern RI are all unusable.

Any idea on Wordens?  Can you get a fiberglass boat in there?

I'd say probably not as most ponds in this areas is still down 1 - 2 feet
