Indian Lake in RI is no longer accessible to anything other than canoes, kayaks and very small jon boats.

The water levels have dropped to the point of making the ramp surrounding launch area to shallow for boats that draw any more than a couple inches of water.

I fished there last night and had a heck of a time getting my 18 foot aluminum boat out of the hole at the launch and into the lake. I literally had to wade into the water and work really hard to make it happen. And I really had doubts that it was going to be doable. There was also a 14 ft. jon boat coming in right after we managed to get my boat past the shallowest spot, and even he scraped bottom pretty good as he pulled in to the launch.

So if you have a glass boat, don't even waste your time trying to launch. You won't be able to do so. And even if you have a Tracker or other aluminum boat, don't bother trying to launch unless we have some considerable amounts of rain.

Took my wife to Indian Lake this evening. We had hoped to do some evening fishing, but we were unable to get the boat into the lake. It floated off the trailer with no problem, but that was as far as we got. The boat wouldn't go over the dirt mound there from people power loading over the years.

I tried to drag it across the mound of dirt that was there, but it wasn't possible.

Two weeks ago, me and two other members of my club ( @Bob W - RI & @Mitz  ) spent some time on a Sunday morning digging that mound down so we could get in there last weekend for a club tourney. I marked the water line on a rock that morning, but by the time we got there for our tourney 6 days later, the water had dropped almost another 2 inches. So we had to do some serious digging that morning to get our boats into the lake, but managed to get it done.

Tonight, the rock that I had drawn the water line on is completely out of the water. So that means the water has dropped about another 2 inches.

So... once again, Indian Lake is inaccessible to anything bigger than a 12 foot aluminum boat.

@Joe P I stopped at Watchaug on my way back through Charlestown, since it was on the way for me.

I took my shoes off and waded out to see if I would be able to get my boat across the flat. Once I got past the hole at the launch, the depth came back up to my shins and that was it. Seriously only about a foot of water or less. It was shallow enough that I didn't even bother launching my boat, since it would have required me to literally drag it across the flat to try to get out to deeper water. And then it would have required me to do the same thing when I came back in later at night.

I ended up coming back home without ever wetting a line   :crying:

@Bob W - RI is right. We need rain badly, and lots of it! But let's hope it comes over an extended period of time and not all at once!

Thanks @Brazzy I'm willing to bet there are other ramps in the state that are unusable right now too.

I think Tucker Pond is probably one of them, since it's a shallow launch to begin with, even when the water is high. And Wordens Pond is probably pretty bad now too, but don't know how bad.

Certainly one of the hottest and driest summers we've had in a while! I've been dying at work the last two months :P

Billing and Wyassup were down about 2 feet the last time i was there.  Bad everywhere!

I honestly don't remember a summer this dry. In years past I was able to fish Indian lake right through the entire summer with no problems at all getting the boat off the trailer and into the lake.

Bob W.

I didn't get any pics of Indian Lake. Actually, I don't think pics would be able to show the problem there, since the ramp itself is deep enough to float the boat. It's the huge mound of dirt and rocks behind the hole that causes the problem.

Wow! Surprised that you got across that skinny water on the flat, especially with a V hull!  :o

I talked to a friend that had a club tournament there ( Watchaug ) last week and he said they had to get in the water and push the boat out!
