Bass Bums open tournament on Johnson's pond has been moved to South Watuppa on April 19,2014 Saturday.
The Bass Bums Spring Open

Individual or with Partner

South Watuppa

Fall River, MA

Date: Saturday, April 19, 2014 Time: 7 a.m. ? 3 p.m.

Entry fee: $60 per person; includes lunker

70% payback

Payouts based on 40 anglers: 1st $660

2nd $380

3rd $200

4th $140

5th $100

Lunker $200

5 fish limit per boat; can fish one or two people per boat.

Boat numbers will be drawn at check-in.

All boats must check-in by 6:30 a.m. and be on the water by 6:45 a.m.

Tournament waters will be off-limits 24 hours prior to check-in.

Competitors under the age of 18 must fish with a parent or legal guardian. Proof of eligibility may be requested by the tournament officials and is the responsibility of the prospective competitor to provide the proof.

However, fishing the event is not guaranteed, if we exceed the 24 boats.

The undersigned hereby releases and discharges the Bass Bum?s members from all claims, demands, rights of causes of action present and future; whether known and anticipated or unanticipated and resulting from or arising out of or incidental to the undersigned's participation in the above mentioned tournament. Those competitors under the age of 18 must fish with a parent or legal guardian as the other member of the team. R.I. B.A.S.S. Federation Nation Tournament rules apply.

Tournament Rules:

All boats must have adequate live well space for five (5) fish.

All boats must be equipped with an ignition kill switch. The switch must be connected to the driver?s body when the combustion engine is running.

Each competitor is required to wear a coast guard approved life preserver anytime the combustion engine is running.

Maximum horsepower shall be the maximum rating stated by the manufacturer.

Only artificial lures may be used. No live bait or prepared bait, with the exception of pork rind, will be permitted.

Safe boating conduct must be observed by all boaters at all times.

No fishing within fifty (50) feet of any anchored competitor's boat with trolling motor pulled.

Only largemouth and smallmouth bass will be weighed in.

Plastic weigh-in bags must be used to transport fish.

Nets will be allowed to land fish, but no grippers, etc.

Winner shall be by total weight. First tie-breaker shall be by total number of bass; second tie-breaker shall be largest bass.

Minimum size to weigh-in, from closed mouth to tip of tail, is twelve (12) inches. A short fish will result in disqualification.

Each dead bass weighed-in will result in an eight (8) ounce penalty.

That's my guess. The campgrounds new owners are all about protecting the camp grounds from over use. Campers 1st boaters 2nd. I understand it but I really miss the season opener there.

Last year the Ocean State Open was canceled only about two weeks before the date. That tourney on a good year has over 80 boats, almost never has less than 50.  I haven't heard anything about that open yet this year. No local lakes can handle that amount of boats. It's just a sad story....
Men and fish are alike, they both get in trouble when they open their mouths...

I have heard rumors that the ocean state open will not happen this year; or the Fathers day open as well.  I hope both tournaments are still put on because both drew quite a big field of 40+ boats.
