Years back I used to make torpedo top water from scratch because Hadden stopped making the old style Zara spook.  Then I started making lipped crank baits and used computer boards for the lips. It's not as had as you would think making them. I would use balsa wood and sugar pine for the bodies.
Men and fish are alike, they both get in trouble when they open their mouths...
