They might be Koi (pronounced coy) fish, which are related to carp. These tend to end up in lakes or rivers because people release them into the wild when they get tired of taking care of them.

They originally came from Asia... Japan, I believe.

I have seen a few of these in Roger Williams pond in Providence/Cranston area of RI. The few I have seen are a little bigger than this and look like Koi but they could be Carp seeing I know there are carp in there. And these things want nothing to do with any type of lure. Maybe we need to get someone that fishes carp to try and catch one.

The Koi is also know as carp, they are all in the same family "Cyprinidae". It is the largest known family of freshwater fish with somewhere around 26 species including the pet store "goldfish". It is believed that some species have been farmed in China since 3500BC. Koi is just an ornamental name used for them. It's still a carp. An 18" Koi can sell for over $400.00 in a pet store or fish pond store. Even a 4-5" Koi sells for over $50.00.

Men and fish are alike, they both get in trouble when they open their mouths...
