Fish On!

Fished Wallum Lake last night for the very first time. Bob W took me there to show me around in preparation for an upcoming tourney.

We fished from 7:45 PM until Midnight. We had a lot of action but nothing to brag about with regard to size. I think I had 12 fish total, mostly smallies, but with a couple LMBs thrown in for good measure. My biggest fish was probably 2 lbs. Best 5 would probably have weighed about 9 lbs. or a little less.

Bob had a decent night, landing about a half dozen fish, including a smallie that looked to be about 2 1/4 lbs. He also lost a huge fish when it broke his line  Sad

My first impression of the lake was good. Seems like it holds a decent population of bass of both varieties.

Our fish were caught mostly on spinnerbaits.. white before dark and black after dark. I also had one LMB on the Spit-N-Image before dark.

Sounds like a productive evening. Were you able to figure out any patterns on the lake in addition to where the fish are holding?

Bob, that stinks that you lost that fish. Hopefully you or Curt can get that one during the tourney if you are fishing it!

Thanks Matt. It was definately a good fish. For most of the night I kept thinking how big was it! Who knows when you loose one like that was it 5 lb or a 9 lb bass? We all have had it happen to us at one time or will have it happen. That bass just dived down and away at the same time. I set the hook and tried to pull and then a loud snap that sounded like my rod broke. Maybe next time. Just good to be out at night with great weather. And there is still lots of summer left.

I hear you Bob. Nothing quite as frustrating and exhilirating as having a big fish on the line only to see it slip away. After a good blood curdling scream, I only then feel good where I can continue fishing. Sure I have scared the heck out of fish around me at least 14 ft deep, but on the plus side it offers yet a new challenge and forces me to another part of the lake to fish.  Grin

Summer is not over yet, you will get em...

When Bob's line snapped, I would have sworn it was his rod snapping into two pieces! I don't know what he hooked into, but it was definitely a good fish  Undecided

Man I hate that. Your heart was probably pounding with anxiety when you felt the weight on your line. All you want to do at that point is to just to get her in and take a peek at her.

Better luck next time!
