Fish On!

Well gang, our trip to Lake Fork suffered from terrible timing. The weather leading up to it was cold and snowy in Texas, where they had record snowfall the week before we got there. After we arrived there, the weather continued to be cold and unseasonable, so we figured our chances of catching a lot of bass were pretty slim, but we still held out hope for a biggie.

When everything was said and done we had caught fish, but only a few and only fish under 4 lbs.

We were just victims of bad weather... nothing more and nothing less. Tom did his very best to put us on areas that were prime big-fish spots. It just wasn't happening. In fact, we talked to other people who went three days straight with ZERO fish, so we didn't feel quite so bad.

Anyway, here are some pics from our trip.

Like I said... nothing over 4 lbs. But I definitely want to go back there again in the future.

A shot of one of Bob's Lake Fork bass:

As you can see by the layers of clothes, it was pretty stinkin' cold out there!

Nice fish guys... Too bad the weather did not cooperate more.... On the plus side you got out to fish while the rest of us are just chomping on the bit to get out there. Smiley

So what were you guys throwing to catch the fish you did? Looks like there is some good structure out there

Bob hit his fish on a crankbait and mine were caught on lipless crankbaits.

Yea ,  there were lots of submerged trees, maybe 70% of the lake. That brobably one of the reasons this is one of the best Bass producing lakes around. When the weather and water conditions are good that is!
And yes the suit helped to keep me warm, along with the 4 other layers of clothes I had on. But I look like a stupid teletubby! Time to loose a few pounds before spring!

Thanks to Curt and Bob for coming down.  Despite miserable weather and very, very slow fishing, they stuck with it and fished very hard.  Both are good fellows and anglers--if I had 2 like them in the boat every time my job would be very easy.

We had a light snow yesterday, and the possibility of snow on Friday again.  This is just absurd.  Had a warm up over the weekend and they bit pretty well on Sunday and then had a decent day yesterday in the snow with the another front coming through.  We had an 8 on Mon and another guide had one just over 11 yesterday and an 11.78 came in Sunday, so there is hope.  Outside of those couple good days though, the rest of the days have been very slow.  Did figure out one piece of the puzzle.  Basically, anywhere you see dying shad you need to get out of there.  Seems like the bass are having an easy time in those areas and getting all the free meals they want.

Fork seems like an All-Star player that is in an 3 for 40 slump with about 29 strike outs.  You know it will break out sooner or later, but only a few weak singles and a couple of long foul balls recently.     Roll Eyes

The weather wasn't the best, but I would definitely go back and fish with Tom again. Tom was there every morning to take us out and was full of information and tips. His boat was a Ranger with all the features you could want. He kept us out for a good 10 hours each day with a break for lunch at the restaurant on the water. The motel was at the boat launch and our door was about 150 away from the water. Good food at the restaurant there too, with lots of homemade pies! And what a coconut meringue pie they had. I would recommend this place and Tom to anyone looking for a good time bass fishing with the opportunity of a lifetime.

Glad you guys had a nice trip. Too bad the fish didn't cooperate for you like we all know that water can produce. Maybe next trip will be the one to remember.

btw, turned on the tv this morning to the Vs channel today to watch some fishing and caught your good friend Tom doing a 2-man team challenge show. Tom & his partner put it away with a nice 5 fish bag over 23lbs.
