About 90% covered today with no real warm up in site, might be fishing early this year.

Supposed to be in the low 30s for the next few days but with brutal winds, so not sure how the ice will fare when the 50 MPH winds blow through here this weekend.

Either way, if we don't have a major warmup, there might be safe ice soon.

The snow will be more a problem, could slow the freezing!

Drove by Chapmans a short time ago.100% ice coverage now, so the wind definitely won't be an issue. With the predicted wind speeds, maybe it'll keep the snow coverage to a minimum.

Chapmans definitely has safe ice. I saw some people out there during the past couple days.

Not sure if the whole pond is safe... but at least some of it is.

They are back out there today but there is a good sized open spot in the middle now!

Definitely safe at Chapman's Pond. Drove by a few minutes ago and there were at least 20 people out there.

The middle still has a hole that's wide open, but this isn't unusual... I've seen it in years past too.

No.. it gets most of its water from the swamp in the back. There are some years when it freezes solid and others when it seems to stay open in the middle. It's really weird  :-\

Chapman's Pond is rumored to have been a farmer's field back in the 1800s and early 1900s. Supposedly when they built Rte. 91, it caused the field to flood and create the pond. I don't know specifics, but an old timer that I used to live near told me this.

As a kid i remember everyone called it Burton's Pond. There was a dock at the moose club that i used catch big perch and pumpkinseeds off of.

Yep.. that's the name he referred to it as. I also remember about the dock too. I think that's been gone for about 25 years now. I'd love to find some old aerial photos from before it was a pond.
