I know it's still a bit early for this, but I wanted to remind everyone about this forum.

I drove by a few small "puddle ponds" today and saw at least one of them skimmed over this morning. I doubt it'll still be frozen by the end of the day, but the fact that it had skimmed over tells me that the small ponds are hovering near that freezing mark already.

Keep us all posted about ice conditions in your area!

Curt,

Do you ice fish?  If so, come join us sometime at Gardner for some jigging and a feast on the ice.  Grin

Thanks Mike. I haven't ice fished since I was a kid up in Maine, fishing for trout through the ice with little tiny minnows.

We'll see what this winter brings. Maybe I'll have to check it out and share in the feast!

Nothing more relaxing on a nice winter day than ice fishing and cooking on the ice. Beats sitting in the house Cool

I think the fear aspect of it probably comes from living in the south where there is no safe ice.

I remember running snowmobiles across frozen lakes when I was a kid. I've also seen full sized trucks on the ice up in Maine. I think that's pushing it a bit, but I have seen it done.

I bought Arctic Armor ice fishing bib and jacket and the reason I picked them up was to keep warm, dry, and most important they float....bring on the ice....I got myself a vexilar this year so I am ready to do some jigging.

In Fisherman has been running a series of ice fishing shows the last few weeks. Some pretty interesting shows so far.

One show they were jigging jumbo perch, i have never seen perch that big. They were shaped like footballs.

Keep an eye for it  Cool

Were they catching them on the Great Lakes? I've heard of other people catching monster perch from the Great Lakes in the past, through the ice.

Wow... an expensive toy. But I guess if you live in places where there is safe ice for 4 months out of the year and you really have a need/want for it then it could be worth the money.

I think mostly guides have them. Makes sense for them, keep the clients out of the weather and drive them to hot spots Cool
