So have you guys ever notice the negative terminal get REALLY hot on your battery when in use?

At that start of the season I replaced the batteries on my newly purchased boat with 2 Energizer deep cycle marine batteries. Did some quick reading on them and the reviews were not bad...

Well, since I put these in the boat I have always felt like my 70LB TM just doesn't have what it used to. Now here is the ODD thing. In the past week or so I fished with my friend out of his Jon Boat and he has a small 40lb TM. The first day we used his OLD battery and it moved us right along. Well last night I grabbed one of my batteries because his never made it to the charger and his 40lb TM on HIGH was pushing the boat like it was on 1/2 speed. It just had no GO.. Also we noticed the negative terminal was almost to HOT to touch.

So it looks like this weekend I'll be shopping around again.
I know we covered it before but what is everyone's preference on batteries?

Can't find much online. Where can you get the PowerTroll batteries?

If your willing to spend the money I would go with Optima blue tops for the TM.

I have a Optima yellow top starting Battery and run my bilge pump, (I have a major leak in the boat), live well and two finders all day long for two days and it takes less then an hour to recharge it. My fishing partner has two blue tops on his 24V 80 lb older motor guide (older MG are known to drain batteries) and he can go 3 days without recharging.

Power Troll Batteries:

Power Resources
Hope Valley, RI

401-539-8646
800-388-8646

Group 27 Batteries run $195

Not cheap, but definitely worth the money, in my opinion.

I have a Optima for my cranking battery and I like it.  But Powertrolls for my trolling motor and they are about 7 years old and are just as good as the day I got them. You can get them off exit 3 in Hope Valley.

Well, Sams Club took back the batteries and gave me a store credit! So I was able to upgrade to the Optima Blue Tops at a pretty good price.

I'm VERY interested to see if I notice a difference with my existing Trolling motor.

I'll keep ya posted.

That's great Mitz! Glad they took the other ones back.

Definitely let us know how the TM performs with the new batteries.

I bought 3 optimas at Sams last week for the TM and replaced the cranking battery with a diehard platinum group 31 replacing ALL of the junk batteries that came with my year old boat Roll Eyes.

Hi Eric

You running a 36V TM? If so what one. I'm looking into it as an upgrade.
Also did you notice any more power from the Optima's or just longer run time?

I have a Motorguide 109 and haven't really given these batteries a real test yet. The MG has lasted a year a record for me with MGs so maybe they have resolved some of the issues that plagued them for years. The shaft on the MG is more fragile than Minn Kota and not nearly as good in weeds IMO. If you have room and the boat can tolerate the extra weight 36 volt is the way to go.
